Those 57s for FGW are having a nightmare, maybe they should replace them ;)

Not good. I'm quite glad they never failed when I was on board the sleeper!

I don't think the poor reliability of the FGW 57s will help the business case for keeping the sleeper running to be honest.

Shown as cancelled throughout now - so what would happen with the passengers ?

Put up in a hotel for the night, then put on the 0552 to Pad, or offered alternative transport

Ignore that, i read the following XC as being cancelled.

Sleeper is shown as arriving into PAD 90 minutes late, yet only 5 minutes late into Reading - so it says its taking 2 hours 50 mins from Reading to PAD.

My Guess, Rake+57+PC+PC(back to back) from Plymouth to Reading, then power cars off at reading together with the 57, with another 57 attached from OOC?

I've asked this before, but I don't think it was answered - when a 66 is summoned for dragging a passenger service, what happens with regards to ETS if the current (pardon the pun) loco can't provide it?

Obviously tonight it might be the case that the 57 can still do it, but when the Caley Sleeper was diverted by the S&C, it was 66 hauled, dragging a dead 90 - where did the power come from there?

Doesn't matter for this coming franchise however as it's already been confirmed that it will be part of the specification.

21:45 Penzance to London Pad has broken down, train to be assisted back to Penzance. A replacement train will run, at least 120 mins late

From NRE on twitter. Looks like an HST to me

I have seen threads on this forum before about FGW using two HST power cars to drag the sleeper. Any reason that isn't done all the time? Is it just the logistics of separating the power cars from the coaches, or does it depend on what fault the loco gets?

Almost as bizzare as the night riviera taking around an hour to travel between Newton Abbot and Exeter. Theres soo much slack in the timetable, it's unbelieveable - but really can be usefull in times of disruption and diversions.

Yep, tis a HST replacement. Hardly a berth, but at least those first class seats and full size buffet car will in part make up for it.

June 26, I arrived at Paddington from Truro with Tintagel Castle and Pendennis Castle having hauled the sleeper. At some point Pendennis Castle was attached but don't know where from. I asked the attendent about the routing but she had no idea. Is via Bristol a heavier route for the sleeper than Berks and Hants? I know I'd be well and truely hissed if I was taken from my bed and put in a first class seat on an HST. No chance of a sleep for me. What about a refund? What would be offered by way of compensation? Nothing short of a full refund would satisfy me.

They'd obviously replace the berth cost, in full. As for the train ticket cost, as a minimum you'd be entitled to compensation under FGWs scheme which, in the case of last night's train, would be a full refund anyway.

Thunderbird loco was summoned in the shape of 1Z99 66156 from Fowey which hauled 1A40 back to Penzance, arriving at 0310.

1Z40 HST departed Penzance at 0320.

It would seem further complications occurred when the 08 shunter was unable to build up air on the ECS back to Long Rock, leaving 66156 trapped on the blocks unable to return to Fowey where it was required first thing.

Voyager was shown terminating St Erth. Presumably returned to Penzance as this morning's 0628 Plymouth to Penzance was cancelled.

1Z40 arrived at Paddington at 0819 having run non stop Exeter to Reading via the Berks and Hants.

That was the relief stock for the Olympics, nothing to do with the sleeper. However, is there a reason why first haven't looked into replacing 57's with 67's. I know their franchise is running out, but are there any other reasons?

Assuming the hst used was stolen from the (approx) 750am Penzance to paddington as the 820am departure from Truro to paddington was cancelled this morning

They'd have to sub-lease the 67s from DBS which would probably be more expensive than leasing 57s directly. Of course there's no guarantee DBS would even want or be able to lease 4 67s to FGW. Then there are all the crew and fitter training costs.
