Driver training on the North Wales Coast has begun using the ex-Virgin Driving Van Trailers which have been converted for use with Class 67 locomotives so that the Holyhead - Cardiff express can work as a push-pull train, reversing at Chester to serve Wrexham, from September.

Monday 6 August saw locomotive 67 001 and DVT 82308 run as train 5Z50 11:30 Cardiff Canton depot - Holyhead, and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the following diagram is planned:

5Z51 10:00 Holyhead - Crewe
5Z52 12:14 Crewe - Shrewsbury (Via Stafford / Oxley)
5Z53 13:37 Shrewsbury - Holyhead (Via Crewe)

Moreover, the North Wales-based drivers need to be trained as well as those down in Cardiff.

Indeed I agree, I am wondering when the DVT will be seen on the Wrexham line, only possible paths are between 0100 & 0430 weekdays & 0100 to 0700 on Sundays, although Sundays daytime could see a few paths.

I presume the DVT will have to be driven on the Chester/Salop line before Sept 17th with a changeover trial at Chester.

No reason for it to need to go down there at all, the drivers can learn the traction elsewhere and will already know the route.

Yes I take your point about leaning elsewhere, but I would have expected a trial run on this line prior, Perhaps ATW may lay on the DVT/67 mark 3s as a special for the high & the mighty & press before Sept 17th using the Wrexham line as an advert. ATW did this with Gerald in 2010 if I recall from Cardiff.

Why would they need to have a trial run WSMR did the line from WRexham to Shrewsbury for 3 years and I think this is good enough to know that there shouldn't be any problems. Currently I doubt if the coaches are ready as the training train is only a 67/DVT combo.

Saw this by complete chance this morning near Colwyn Bay on the A55 wondered if I had seen it right, come here to question it and find that we are already on the case.

Is the DVT coming in to use in September for full use? Are mkIIIs coming in as well? How many per train set?

Any idea what's changed? It wasn't at Holyhead last night. I can't imagine all the drivers have been trained already, so is there a problem with the trian itself?
