Well according to the latest on BBC Sport there are no outstanding issues with the SFL or the SFA. The problem appears to be with the SPL (they're getting agitated because TV companies won't pay them as much as they want, so they want a share of the revenue the SFL get from any deal which they make to show Rangers in Division 3, and they want to take our titles away).

I, for one, hope Rangers tell the SPL just where they can go. They don't want us, they got rid of us - why should we deal with them at all? They've made their bed, now they should be made to lie in it.

I 'd be happy, to never leave the Scottish Football League, it was a selfiish decision based on greed to set up the SPL, depriving the remaining 28 clubs, (at the time) a fair share of TV revenue. I'd ideally like to have a united league once again. Failing that, remain in the SFL. It is up to the SFA how European places are distributed anyway, not that there will be many favours for us all the same.

It was rather a pity that the mix up in the North Korean and South Korean flag symbols occurred as the dispute between these two countries sees diplomatic relations at one of the lowest-ever levels at this present time and I cannot believe that particular care would not have been taken to ensure the North Korean identity would have been preserved.

Well Newcastle have already won some silverware this season! The Trofeu Internacional de Futebol do Guadiana has been running for 12 years and a 2-1 win for Newcastle over SC Braga meant that Newcastle clinched the silverware.

However the competition was not exactly competitive, only contested by Olympiakos, SC Braga and Newcastle and having watched both matches, I have to say our performances were somewhat underwhelming.

Well, as much as I hate his attitude, his behaviour, his hairstyle and the playing style which he suits, I have to say that I would like to see Andy back on Tyneside.
He is undoubtedly an excellent striker and the way that we play suits him.
Should we pay 20 million? In my opinion, no. Liverpool bought Carroll at a vastly inflated price, nowhere near what he was worth, and I think that this is still reflected in the asking price for him now.
So yes, I would have him back but not for over 15 million. And I don't think Mr Ashley will be wanting to pay anything like 20 million for the young man either.

I think he only did well the first time becasue we had Barton to aim crosses at him. We play a better passing game now, with the likes of Cabaye, and I don't think Carroll would fit in.

Should we pay 20 million? In my opinion, no.

I absolutely agree, although I wouldn't actually mind having him back for a year free, without an obligation to buy, just as a spare striker (despite what I've said above.)

And I don't think Mr Ashley will be wanting to pay anything like 20 million for the young man either.

For once, Ashley's financial tactics might pay off for us!

True, but I think Ashley is running the club in a much better way financially that our previous owner Freddie Shepherd. We spent excessive amounts of money on players who didn't perform - and that was a significant factor in our relegation. Shepherd also took a substantial amount of money out of the club, a lot more than Ashley is. I very much like our idea of paying small amounts of money for young players and then developing them and the signings we have made over the past couple of years have been exceptional. But needless to say there are various other aspects of Ashley that mean he is a far from good owner.

Newcastle United had quite an impressive run last season in the Premiership and commanded a very high league position. Does anyone feel that this can be repeated this season ?

Well, call me a cynic but I don't think that we will be able to repeat this. The European fixtures adds significant strain to the squad and I think that this will mean our league position will suffer, particularly as our squad is quite small. However I still think we will have a strong season and I'm hoping that we will be able to finish seventh or above to hopefully secure European football.

Just seen this on Facebook, it did make me smile (no matter how wrong it is ;))

Q: How many Rangers fans does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: 10: 1 to change it; and 9 to argue that it's the same lightbulb.

Celtic 2-1 HJK Helsinki
Gave away a typical 'soft' away goal but then rallied and with better 'sharpness' in front of goal, should have scored more, but will have to improve the match fitness and quickly, HJK being well into their season an' all...

Scottish League Cup

Stranraer 0....Livingston 8

Very early last season, Stranraer suffered a similar very heavy home defeat in a competition.

Kevin Kyle, formerly of Hearts, who has been sidelined by injuries over the recent months, but who recently had been training at St Johnstone, has today signed for Rangers.

This is in addition to the two other Rangers signings today of Francisco Sandaza and Emilson Kribari.

Read in the paper today that Darren Fletcher is going to resume training next week with the Scotland squad. I really hope this happens - we've missed him at United, and it's looked for a while as if he'd never play again. Above all, he's a model professional, so come on Fletch!

Well, the new season in the Conference Premiership starts this weekend with another full set of fixtures to follow in the following midweek.

I hope that Hyde FC do not suffer too much from the rarified atmosphere of football played there, after finding life somewhat too easy in the Conference North.

SS4 (and anyone else really!): the Community Shield Final is tomorrow at Villa Park (owing to Wembley being on Olympic duty) - it's Manchester City v Chelsea, 1330 KO, coverage on ITV1 from 1300.

In the League cup 7 (seven) games have gone to extra time compared to 5 (five) which finished after 90 minutes. Is this evidence that few teams care about the league cup or just an unusual set of circumstances?
Also why wouldn't 5Live broadcast a game on Sports Extra (there was nothing on when I tuned in)?

Wolves v Aldershot has been an awful game though

Newcastle lost 4-1 against Cardiff... with their first-choice back four, keeper and holding midefielder in the starting line-up. This is not a good sign, considering we are soon to begin a European campaign.
