Not alot of buses to fill the routes and 21004 is dual-purpose.

Full LF single deck fleet did't last long then. Wonder if they'll try and grab another MAN of Manc. Then any again with all the takeovers down there god knows what the plans are.

I assume that all the imports I.e. MANs/Darts from Scotland/Cambridge will go into service in Manchester displacing older S/T reg MANs to Wigan? Meaning Wigan will have S/T reg MANs, MAN E400s probably some older darts and whatever First originals survive lol.

Stagecoach have announced this morning that they are acquiring Firsts Chester, Wrexham and Birkenhead operations. All three operation will come under the Merseyside & South Lancs umbrella.

"Acquisition of bus operations in Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales

Stagecoach Group plc ("Stagecoach") is pleased to announce that Glenvale Transport Ltd, a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of Stagecoach, has agreed to acquire certain businesses and assets of subsidiaries of FirstGroup plc ("First") for a consideration of £4.5 million.

The businesses being acquired operate commercial and tendered bus services in Chester, Wrexham and Birkenhead, employing approximately 290 people.

In the 12 months to 31 March 2012, the business had revenues of £11.9 million, EBITDA of around £1.7 million and an operating profit of around £0.6 million.

The purchase includes around 110 vehicles, as well as the owned depot site at New Chester Road, Rock Ferry, Birkenhead; the owned depot facility at Liverpool Road, Chester; and a leased out-station facility at Rhosddu Industrial Estate, Rhosddu, Wrexham.

The acquisition will allow Stagecoach to expand its successful bus operations in the North West where our Merseyside and South Lancashire business already operates more than 300 buses and employs more than 900 staff.

The operations will become part of Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire, which carries 33 million passengers a year and is led by Managing Director Elisabeth Tasker.

Staff will transfer to Stagecoach's Glenvale Transport Ltd business under TUPE arrangements.

Stagecoach expects the acquisition to be completed in December 2012 or January 2013.

Les Warneford, Managing Director of Stagecoach UK Bus, said: "This acquisition will extend our operations in the north west of England, particularly in Merseyside. We believe there is significant scope to develop these businesses and improve their financial performance by investing in the quality of the bus fleet, as well as offering customers our good value fares and attractive network tickets."

ENDS"

Equally, if they don't keep selling up they could find themselves with severe cashflow difficulties which could bankrupt them....

With all these acquisitions going on it's made me think about how much money SC will spend on refurbing any vehicles they keep.

As has been mentioned some of the newer vehicles will be overhauled to SC standard and I suppose SC will try and replace as much as possible with available reserve stock.

I would hate to see ex First buses with a lovely SC paint job and then pink interiors haha!

Not really a debating point but thought I'd put it out there, I'm all about image lol.

Also does anybody know how many of the equired depots have paint shops?

Hyde road, gilmoss and carlisle are the only depots i can think of that have paint shops in the north west, unless they send some to blackburn like first are doing, also depends how many have received the new 'barbie' livery.

Regards what may go into Wigan, Stagecoach North West have recently put their six ex East Scotland MAN 18.220s into reserve. Mbonwick is probably the expert here, but from what I've read on this thread, those vehicles (including 22274, which was named The Backstreet Boys during its Fife days) aren't the most reliable things around. It does lead to this question; would Stagecoach be willing to risk putting those six vehicles into Wigan, despite their reliability, until something better comes along, knowing that if those vehicles keep failing, they will get a bad press, or do they wait, and thus delay the pace of the swoops being introduced, and delay introducing their standard vehicles?

4 of the 6 (the V regs off the top of my head) are for Chorley.

As for the other 2, time will tell.

A few notes from a day out yesterday at Preston and Chorley.

Both of Chorley's additional Enviro400 bodied Scanias have entered service, 15839 PX62CEF & 15840 PX62CEK.

ALX300s 22256, 22257 & 22807 are all confirmed at Chorley and were all in service, while Preston had 22274 in service on the 59/61 (joining 22260 which has seen service recently though not seen on the day).

ALX400 17021 broke down at Preston Bus station, it was refusing to start even with the use of the battery boost.
