Collecting from a ticket machine (concern)

Hi All,

I've just booked a ticket from Leeds to London with Trainline (don't groan, I like the interface) for Thursday, for the first time i have paid with PayPal (and I don't know if that makes a difference), but on the confirmation screen it says:

Journey 1: Leeds to London Kings Cross £31.40
Getting your tickets: Self-service ticket machine
Ref XXXXXXXX
Tickets will be ready for collection 15 minute(s) after booking.
Collect your ticket(s) from the ticket machine at London Kings Cross.
You will need your collection reference number and any valid debit/credit card to collect your tickets. (for ID only, it will not be charged)

If I'm travelling from Leeds to London, how am I supposed to collect my ticket from the machine at Kings Cross? I usually collect them from the machine at Horsforth, but wasn't given an option to specify....(at least I don't think i was).

you can pick up the tickets from Leeds station ticket machines (and most others in the UK apart from Merseyrail)

You can use any machine at any station that supports collection. The websites only make you specify a station to stop you using a station that doesn't have machines that support collection of pre-booked tickets.

Thanks both, that's made me feel much better. Out of interest, as I have not used a credit card to book the tickets, is it just a case of entering the reference number?

Not quite. As your confirmation says, "You will need your collection reference number and any valid debit/credit card to collect your tickets. (for ID only, it will not be charged)".

Then take a friend with you to the station who does? It just has to be any valid debit or credit card, not even your own, or I guess you won't get your tickets printed out without putting one in the TVM.

I think you also get discount on EMT Advance tickets, if they still do that and you can also get a little cashback via Topcashback - up to 2.52%.

Um, it depends. Most booking engines insist that the card used for booking is inserted into the machine. The machine will enforce this restriction and if you use any other card you will not be able to collect your tickets.

Not with tickets I've collected. Even wit ones booed through work I've been able to collect them with my own card.

Thetrainline won't know which card was used for booking as the payment was by PayPal.

Although if you've paid with a non-card-based method (in this case PayPal) then I believe you may use any valid card. As it says in the confirmation in the OP :P

Yes it depends in general but, as others have already said, a specific card isn't required in the case of the OP as their payment was by Paypal and their confirmation stated "any valid debit/credit card".

That's not an "even". Business accounts are often an exception to this. I've maanged to pick up tickets booked for my wife from a business account (fortunately as they didn't check with my wife and at the time she wasn't planning to go within 20 miles of a staion with TOD facilities before her journey).

Of course Paypal and voucher payments are also exceptions.
