Does anyone know whats being done behind the Broad Gauge transfer shed at Riverside Yard?
A load of old sidings were lifted but now there are two or three shiney new ones, and there seems to be a lot of work going on around those sidings..
I did hear rumblings that Drs were to run supermarket goods into Devon.. Could this be another very welcome freight flow in our area?

Also does anyone know about the intermodal terminal that is going to be built near Exeter Airport? When is it due to open etc etc

I too have heard rumors going on about DRS running to Exeter Riverside. How true these are I don't know however a lot of work has been done in the area.

Are they still building the Sainsburys rail-freight depot near the airport?

Well, Sainsburys is due to open next year, its about a year behind apparantly..
The impression was that it was going to be rail linked but general opinion is that its not, and that there is going to be an intermodal depot that is...
I may be wrong, it happens quite a lot!! Lol

See here for more information on the Old Yard sidings. I have also heard about the DRS rumours (I believe it would be for Tesco, though I'm amazed that they haven't done what Sainsbury's have by making the most of the IMF terminal). No idea when the Sainsbury's depot is due to open, but it's worth bearing in mind that it only forms Phase 1 of the IMF terminal. Phase 2 would be subject to a separate, as yet unsubmitted planning application, but that application MUST include building the rail link, according to EDDC. It's worth noting that it looks like the Clyst Honiton bypass (the main access road for the IMF terminal) looks ready to open any day now.

I can't believe how much it has changed out around the airport these days, it's been about a month since I was last there so no doubt it's virtually unrecognisable now!

I'd like the idea of some 'regular' freight working the 'Waterloo line', regardless of which way?? :D

After all that Sainsburys have pulled the plug on the RDC now..

Not sure what the reasons are tho...

One can only assume that the FOC's are not competitive against road transport.

Apparantly the Sainsburys depot was not ever going to be rail linked.. the link is being put in for an intermodal terminal... if THAT ever happens..
As a very pro rail enthusiast who is heavily invoved in road logistics this is bitter sweet... an rdc on the scale of the sainsburys site would be a massive boost for the area but the lack of rail connected RDCs is a real shame
