Not a Request for help but a release. What i'v managed to come up with instead of payin every time i go up.

(All fares are on Young Persons railcard but work for CHILD and PUBLIC)

Standard Tickets (for compare)
Standard Open Return: £30.35

[Stoke-on-Trent - Manchester (SVR 8A) = £8.10 (Valid ANY TRAIN)]
Total Price is = £15.20 valid from the 08:18 from Birmingham, stoke at 09:12 into Manchester for 10:02

From the 09:18 off Birmingham day return Monday to Friday and any time Saturday and Sunday
Birmingham - Stoke (Cheap day Return B3) = £5.80
Stoke - Manchester (Cheap day Return B3) = £6.25
Total £12.05 valid from 09:18 MF also any time SSuO

Restrictions in detail:

Any Train

8A Saver Return
Outward Travel
Valid by ANY train

Return Travel
Valid by ANY train

2V Saver Return (complex one)

Restriction applies outward and return Monday to Friday. Also applies when connections into and out of these services (only important bits included)

For journeys to or VIA Wolv, Birmingham NS, Birm INT, Cov or Leam Spa:
Valid from or later:
Manchester Pic: 09:24
Stoke-on-Trent: 09:07 (sounds stupid don't it)
----------------------------------------------------
From or Via:
Wolv, Birmingham NS, Birm INT, Cov or Leam Spa

to Manchester Crewe, Wilmslow, Stockport, Bolton, Warrington, Wigan, Preston and Lancaster

Depart at or after: 09:00
-----------------------------------------------------
There is no restriction for any journey not covered above. (That's Birmingham to Stoke-on-Trent)
=========================================
So for a quick example of Manchester to Birmingham the way to use 2V well is looking at a Day Trip point of View NOT MONTHLY as that isn't my point:

MAN to SOT saver 8A (£8.10) any time.

Then after 09:00 you use:
Stoke on Trent to Birmingham Cheap Day Return B3 (£5.80)

But after 09:07 you can use (even though it's more expensive for a day trip?)
Stoke on Trent to Birmingham Saver Return 2V (£9.40)

This is the key train:
MAN - 08:24
SOT - 09:04
BHM - 10:04

Any comments or faults please bring them up.

EDIT: wouldn't it be best if we can have a cheap ticket part of the forum for Requests [REQ] or Releases [REL]?

Good idea IMHO.

It would be interesting to see how much i could save with a walk up fare to Edinburgh, rather than booking several months in advance and having to travel on a particular train.

Wasn't there a website on this a while ago? Just a bit outdated given the weekly fare raises.

I've heard of at least two database style websites, but there are thousands of potential journeys & ticket types for which it is possible and it has the potential to be a nightmare to update & add new journeys. Even one I saw which encouraged users to submit some journeys had the same problem
