I too would think that chartering a coach could be more cost-effective and provide privacy for the group.

There are plenty of 49- or 51-seaters around.

It's partly down to personal preference too. With a coach you have privacy and contiguous seating guaranteed, and you can leave at any time, but in my opinion the experience is much less comfortable.

You get no table seats, usually worse ventilation, possible travel sickness, no on-board catering or snack trolley etc.

She did look at a coach but they need to be there overnight so it then starts to get expensive and they can travel of peak so train should be cheaper.

Typically those group deals made through Group Travel in Tocs only offer around 10% off however for such a large number it might be worthwhile giving ECT a call?

http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/special-offers/our-offers/travel-savings/big-savings-for-small-groups/
Allows for groups of between 3 and 9 34% Advance fares - so if the group can be split this may be a better deal.

Alternatively for such a large number how much would chartering an executive coach cost?

I looked on east coast website last night which allows her to book up to 9 at a time and that turned out at £135 or £15 each so she's going to try that even if it goes up for some still a good average.

I would recommend calling EC. For starters, they may be able to reserve you all in the same carriage. Is it a social group or a work group?

Please could you get her to go to a station with one ticket machine (and no window) and collect all the tickets in the morning peak?

I believe that the price per person for booking a part of 49 by phone will be less than separate online blocks of 9 people per booking.
