Can someone advise if your collection receipt from the ticket machine says 6 coupons does that include the receipt or not?

Thanks

No, we cannot advise, as on some they do and some they don't. Most (unless it was certain machines at East Midlands Trains and South West Trains stations that are collection only - i.e. you cannot buy tickets from them) DO include the receipt in the number I believe.

Further to the above, if you're concerned about the fact you might not have received enough coupons then I'm sure if you posted the journey details and ticket details here, and the coupons you did get, that someone would be happy to help.

It might do. But it might not!

What type of machine? What website did you book on?

Many thanks for your replies.

I booked on East Coast's website, went to collect my tickets from the machine this morning before getting on the train at Inverness. Journey was from Inverness to Darlington, open return.

Anyway got on the train and I noticed my return ticket didn't have a second part. Not being used to return tickets as I normally buy advance tickets I asked the guard and he said yes there was a part missing but he thought it very odd as I had my collection receipt. Anyway I had to change at Edinburgh so he said ask there and they'll help. Unfortunately my connection time was only 15mins odd so he said to speak to them at Darlington which I did. They said according to their machines it's been printed but nothing had been handed in Inverness. They did try and ring but said they got no answer.

Their attitude was that I must dropped it, to which I replied I was surrounded by people all the time who would have noticed and if I dropped it how come I had all the other tickets with me. I appreciate accidents happen but I am convinced I didn't drop it as all the tickets were together. The lady at darlington however did say again how odd it was I had my collection receipt. The collection part says 6 coupons but the lady seemed to think East Coast's policy had changed recently and that wouldn't include the collection receipt so I wanted to check on here if it was?

I'm facing paying for another ticket which will be another £58 + so I'd like to find out about coupon numbers and the receipt part and whether or not it is included.

I personally think the ticket must have somehow got stuck in the machine but as I said I could be wrong.

Don't forget you may have the chance to get your tickets re-printed as a whole batch at Darlington, but it is vital you explain and insist in the booking office clerk to re-print them.

Some machines print the receipt first and will flash for you to collect your tickets before everything has been printed so it is possible that you did not collect all coupons.

East Coast can't reprint them apparently, they just said to buy a new ticket.

BB21 this machine and the one at our other local station print the receipt last, that's why the guard and the lady at Darlington thought it strange that I didn't have the return ticket which would have been in the middle of the batch and yet I had the collection receipt which is printed last.

OH is going to try Inverness for me tomorrow but I am assuming they just throw away any tickets away at the end of the day that are stuck in the machine or holding bay.

Would just like to find out for sure if the receipt is or is not included in the coupon number.

I'm sorry there isn't a straightforward answer to this question. It depends on which train company owns the ticket machine. It may also depend on some other factors.

At my local station there are East Coast machines and Northern machines. A set of tickets printed there on an East Coast machine has a collection receipt where the count of coupons excludes the receipt itself. If printed there on a Northern machine, the count includes the receipt.

It really depends on the machine. Even within the same station, with machines branded by the same Train Operating Company, different makes and models of the machines do the coupon count differently.

Thank you for all your help and replies, much appreciated.

Well after much to and froing, I went to book another ticket online but before I did I checked my tickets again. In frustration I again kinda rubbed them in my hands to check there wasn't two together and all of a sudden there was a "pop" noise (like when you pull a freebie off a magazine) and my ticket appeared. The machine hadn't separated it from another ticket as it was stuck to the magnetic strip.

I really can't believe my luck as it never looked as if two were stuck together and I'd already checked each ticket to check, the ticket office hadn't noticed either.

I've learnt my lesson though and I will always check my tickets before leaving the station.Better still I think I'll just pay the £1 to get them posted to me.

Thank you again.

No need to pay £1; redspottedhanky.com posts for free as do several other ticket selling websites under some or all circumstances.

I was disappointed to buy a walk-up ticket from RSH in advance and not be given the offer to have it posted to me, especially as it was from one unmanned station to another.

That's the first time that RSH have let me down :(

Did you book within 5 days of travel? They won't post out that soon before travel as they might not get to you in time.

Booked on Sunday for travel on 17th August!

However, I did buy in the same transaction as tickets for travel this Saturday.

That'll be what stops it as they will only allow one type of delivery for a basket.

I think the deadline might be 7 days (5 working days) in advance so it could have been that you were pretty unlucky there.
