Hello

What are the main duties of a MOM? I know they help to maintain operational safety of the railway. I'm looking for a sort of job description. Couldn't really find what I was looking for on an Internet search.

Thanks

They're the rapid response force keeping signal(wo)men in toilet paper and other stores items. ;)

Joking aside they are the first line of incident response to anything that affects the safe operation of the railway inc. Responding to incidents of Trespass & Vandalism, Fatalities, Signalling equipment failures, Operational Incidents, Groundframe operators / Pilotman duties on Single Line Working, Investigation work - usually on behalf of a Local Operations manager.

Not in all areas of the network, but they also cover signal boxes during staff shortages/unavailability.

The day to day job isn't always about riding round in a shiny white van...it can be a very distressing job, but an important one.

Somewhere
The role and responsibilities of a MOM can vary depending on location and their competencies but generally speaking they are the operational link on the ground between operations and control when things go titty uppy.

Some of their responsibilities can include but not limited to....

Rail Incident Offcier during major events
Pilotman during single line working
Bridge examiner
Rail defect nominee
Working signal boxes, ground frames and crossing boxes if competent.
Operating ole switches
Asssesments and investigations
Clipping points
Delivering of stores and documentation to operational premises

Etc etc

I have started a thread on a MOM's interview, just thought I would hi-jack this thread for any responses. I'm just wondering what type of questions they are likely to ask?
