I am given to understand that as of the week after next, there will only be two C Stock diagrams left on the Circle so Wimbleware conversion is not far off now...

Realistically I can see it happening - the C Stock are getting very hard to find on the Circle now :( Although, they seem to have made a bit of a comeback to the Hammersmith and City compared to the last few months.

Although funnily enough I was at Hammersmith on Monday, arriving on a C Stock, and the other two platforms were also occupied by C Stocks.

There certainly seemed to be a fair few C Stocks about on Monday, Circle line workings 201, 203, 205, 213 and 215 were certainly under C Stock power for at least part of the day, a signal failure around Barbican seemed to change things around. H&C working 237 was also observed as C Stock on the day, as was 244.

I can't say I share your disappointment at the demise of the C stock :D

I'm told by sources that today is the last day of operation for C Stock on the Circle line. One set is running the line. Don't know which diagram it is or where it is, but it's definitely out.

Correction: Not the last set. Jumped the gun ever so slightly there...

Probably be plenty on the Wimbledon-Edgware Road route, that hasnt been infected with S stock yet.

C Stock will be on Wimbledon - Edgware Road in February, but if everything goes to plan, 4 of those trains will have gone over to S Stock by the 21st, so it will be every other train. They should all be gone by about May

Yep, it IS a shame to see the C stock go.

Agreed, the C stock (and A stock) were simple trains that just got on with the day job without any fanfare.

I am not a fan of all this complexity on modern trains, I agree with progress but I think it is getting a bit silly now.

Infected? S Stock is pretty nice ;)

Yes, if your idea of nice is having to squint because of the bright lighting, having ice cream van noises every time the doors open and being shouted at by a loud, patronising voice every five seconds ;)

I can see why people missed the A stock, but how people are going miss the C stock is beyond me :|

I'm always glad when a C stock turns up on the way to work, but purely for nostalgia. The trains themselves are old, cold, uncomfortable and knackered, the sooner they're gone the better.

The A stock was different because the A stock was a proper inter-urban train. The S8 was a bit of a step down, not least because of all the longitudinal seats they put in. But the S7 is a step up from C stock, very definitely. It's probably not a step up from D stock, but that's another story.

The only things I like about the S7/8 are the auto-closing doors and the ability to walk through.

Wait until the temperature hits 28C, you might find a new appreciation for the S stock.

Personally I think the seats are very comfortable, and I die a little inside if a C stock train turns up.

I find the S8's far smoother than A stock in terms of ride quality and less noisy, so that is the deal-clincher for me.

Having now cleared all of the remaining C stock, I would also allow a C stock to pass as there would more than likely be an S stock following behind.

It isn't a shame from my viewpoint, C Stock is one of the most unreliable on the network and spares are impossible to get hold of, the loss of C Stock will also mean longer for the 1972TS with the spares released.

Spares?

I though you just hit them with a hammer! ;)

The C stock seem to be going straight for scrap, no spares being removed first!

The units can be fixed with a hammer, but there are some very small parts that are very hard to replace / find. (That are also fitted to 1972TS).

Last I knew I was planning spares recovery...

Theres also the matter of service spares needing to be asbesdos free, things like Arc Chutes it's a challenge to find a supplier that can follow the spec / drawing properly and produce good units; and fitting a bad one will cause the entire RPA unit to need heavy overhaul.

But you can do all that in glorious air con on a hot day :D

Nym: Make no mistake, I vastly prefer the S Stock. However, it's always a shame to see a train go out of (revenue-gaining) service for me.

Formations today 21st January:

5714 + 5546 + 5705
5720 + 5552 + 5538
5533 + 5517 + 5592
5598 + 5570 + 5565
5543 + 5709 + 5501
5721 + 5728 + 5531

Additionally, yesterday 20th January prtoduced:

5727 + 5560 + 5596
5580 + 5729 + 5726

Obviously these are not exhaustive as I did not have time to cover all the diagrams either day, but Cs are getting very thin on the ground now.
