Oyster Refund Problems

In October 2013 I used Rail Travel Vouchers to top up 4 separate PAYG Oystercards with approximately £90 on each. The RTVs had been expiring soon so I considered it valid and legal to surrender all the cards shortly after for a full refund.

Unfortunately 5 months on, I am still awaiting the refund as my case is still 'under investigation'. They refuse to give me a timescale as to when it will be resolved, but in December said they were 'liaising with TOCs to verify the origin of the RTVs'.

I interpreted that to mean that they had suspicions about the RTVs, especially as they had come from a range of different TOCs.

Can anyone give me any advice on how I can go about chasing this up?

Isn't the issue that Oyster refunds are normally made in the reverse way to how they were loaded, i.e. cash is refunded as cash, and debit or credit cards are refunded back to the relevant account.

I wonder how many refunds back to RTVs they normally process - and then four come along at once. I think they are bound to be suspicious in the circumstances.

While you may not have broken any written rules, I'm sure you'll agree that this looks incredibly suspicious.

I agree it looks suspicious and in retrospect wasn't a sensible thing to do but the RTV's were legitimately obtained and I would gladly receive a refund in that form having waited so long for it.

RTV top-ups are normally refunded as cheques I believe.
