Hello,
I have a friend who wants to travel from Nottingham to Glastonbury (Castle Cary) in June.

I have found a saving on the through fare by buying the following tickets:
Nottingham to Cheltenham Spa - Advance Singles
Cheltenham Spa to Castle Cary - Off Peak Return

The problem is that after Glastonbury finishes, they have a queuing system in operation at Castle Cary station. This may cause my friend to miss his train from Castle Cary to Bristol (or beyond) and then miss his booked train from Cheltenham Spa to Nottingham.

If this happens, do you think my friend should be allowed to travel on a later train from Cheltenham to Nottingham at no extra cost or will he have to buy a new ticket?

I am aware that normally when splitting tickets you are covered if you miss a connection because of an earlier train being delayed, but this situation is a little different.

Thanks for your help.

What about going to Bristol (Im unsure if the service buses run during the festival)
There is a through ticket from Glastonbury to Worcester including the bus fare.

A single is 16.10
Generally using via Worcester is cheaper, but change at cheltenham for a faster and more expensive route.

The advantage is that it is a flexible ticket. - They can aso be brought on the FGW website.

Look at advance tickets via London as well.

I have considered that, but unsurprisingly FGW have put zero quotas on Advance tickets from London to Castle Cary. You can get around this by splitting tickets at Westbury, but I can't find anything cheaper than the price I have found via Cheltenham. Of course, splitting tickets at Westbury doesn't solve the original problem of potentially being stuck in queues at Castle Cary.
