Mmm frustrating, just outside the 45 min travelling time for Banbury and Aylesbury.

Can you not move closer or do you have family in the range?

No desire to move house at the moment and no to the second question. There's only 1 depot I could reasonably get to and it's the one I've applied for with FGW.

Would like to email in the app form, however the form itself seems to be in Read Only form when you download it, any ideas would be appreciated.

What does the website tell you to do with it?

Gives the option of a postal app or email with an email address however I'm not great on Word, etc, don't seem to be able to edit it or even copy and paste it onto a new doc then go from there.

They are a nuisance those type of forms, Even worse if you're viewing on an iPad or similar. I would print it off (preferably using a PC or laptop) then either post the finished article to them or scan it back into a PC and email it as an attachment.

Seems a bit labour intensive for both the applicant and Chiltern :/

I started filling it in digitally using Word but once you started putting in your own information it started messing the pages up with half a box on one page and half on the other. I stopped halfway through and just printed off a fresh application form which I am going to fill in by hand a post to them.

Interesting Chiltern ask if you want to realise a childhood ambition whereas southeastern seem to want to discourage such an application

I haven't finished my app yet.....

Was there a closing date? If not you may have missed the boat. When these applications go live you MUST get your applications in as quickly as possible because even sometimes with a close date after the amount of required applications have gone in they will close it!

Google can still find the advert, and it says the 12th. I only discovered the advert on Monday as I was away at a wedding. Completed today, then I saw this, and it appears I'm too late. Application form states all applications must be in by the closing date.

That's novel. Early closure, fine, but changing the date implies ineffective time management by the applicant.
Oh well. I may send it in anyway....

Even if it's discarded, theres always another opportunity. Perhaps in a year.....

The Chiltern Railways website has been this afternoon updated, to remove the message about recruitment and include this ...

Due to high numbers of applications for the Trainee Train Driver vacancy we have had to bring the deadline for applications forward. We will no longer be receiving applications for this position. We would like to thank everyone who has shown an interest in working for Chiltern Railways and would also like to remind you that we will be recruiting for this position again next year.

It appears those who didn't make the 12th August deadline will not be considered, however, this would of meant you did have 5 days to apply however (including a weekend, which again is rare).

I fully understand it. Sadly, I was completing my application whilst out the country. The fact that I've been doing this when I should've been relaxing is probably where my frustration arises.
Perhaps it shows a genuine desire? Or inability to switch off?

I was fortunate enough to get my application in before the closing date but being from Essex I'm not sure I'll be short listed if they've received a large number of applications.

Do Aylesbury drivers sign all Chiltern routes does anyone know?

No. They don't sign Birmingham - Kidderminster, Hatton - Stratford or Oxford - Bicester Town (but they probably will sign to Oxford once the route reopens). They are the only depot who sign Paddington.

OK. Thanks for that more specific info. Surprised no other depots sign Paddington.
