That is a fitting term to describe him I think.

AT Walex, you should be lynched for embedding that link. <(

At least there is one advantage on having a tablet!

Not a surprising place but I saw 96tommy's brother at York station today.

I'm on a west Yorkshire dayrover so might see more forum members later!

To add, although not a surprising place as it's his local station, but a surprising time, I saw AndyMcl74 at Little Sutton a few weeks back. I say it was a surprising time as it was quite early and I don't think there was anyone on the platform but me and him.

I trust you both had ridiculously cheap tickets to Burscough Junction?

Which one of you was at Grindleford this morning, about half 10 on the Manchester platform? (I was the one on the bike waiting for the Sheffield train, after cycling the Monsal trail)

Not exactly an unexpected place, but I've had both Searle and MidnightFlyer on my trains in the last couple of days - though I must admit I didn't realise it was MidnightFlyer until I'd walked past him a couple of times :)

I saw three forum members in the Greater Manchester area all at work within about 30 minutes the other evening, but I'm not that sure if any of them would recognise me and there wasn't time for a chat with any of them.

So I guess that's that then.

Later that evening, I also saw Phillip - lovely chap! :D

You guys all seem so sociable. I never get to meet anyone unexpectedly when out on my own. :|

The most surprising place I've ever bumped into a forum member? That would probably have to be my place of work. I recently discovered that one of our volunteers is a forum member!

Don't be jealous on my account... I've never unexpectedly met anyone from the forum and not totally put my foot in it! Phillip thought I was a complete freak when I mentioned his Santa hat :p

See here. I did meet fishnchipsrule subsequently but I'm not sure how much either of us enjoyed that. I have also met 185 in... uncomfortable circumstances.
It's like I'm practically incapable of having a non-awkward conversation with any member of railway staff.

Met Paxvobiscum on the Cumbrian Coast while on a NW rover! He was sat on the table in front of me, I was deciding where to bail out when he got up and asked me if I was a member on Rail UK!

Paxvobiscum was being rather courageous there!

Imagine the possible reponse if he'd got it wrong... "How dare you take me for some sort of Anorak trainspotter". <D

Indeed. I met 185143 on the Stockport to Stalybridge train. We were chatting for about 20 minutes before I managed to actually confirm that was who he was due to being cautious!

Ah, well, there were a few subtle clues in the conversation wafting up the coach.

There's a high chance of a few of you bumping in to me next week as I'm doing a big charity challenge. I can't say in detail yet what it is as the press release from ATOC / RDG won't go out until tomorrow morning, but it's much more ambitious than the End to End double I did back in June 2010....

Edited to add:

The release has been sent, but it's under embargo until 00.01 on Saturday...

Right.... It's Saturday... I can reveal that I am doing the Sleeper Train Challenge; all six destinations from London on consecutive nights. In case anyone is around on any of my workings next week, here they are - feel free to say hello if you spot me:

Here's the timetable ( copied and pasted from the planning document, so the formatting might be a bit off ):

Charity stunt timetable
23.50 Paddington Sun 14th Sept – Penzance 08.59 Mon 15th Sept
10.00 Penzance – Paddington 15.24 Mon 15th Sept
21.16 Euston Mon 15th Sept – Aberdeen 07.34 Tues 16th Sept
09.52 Aberdeen – Kings Cross 16.51 Tues 16th Sept
23.50 Euston Tues 16th Sept – Edinburgh 07.22 Weds 17th Sept
09.30 Edinburgh – Kings Cross 13.48* Weds 17th Sept
21.16 Euston Weds 17th Sept – Inverness 08.36 Thurs 18th Sept
09.41 Inverness – Edinburgh 13.23 Thurs 18th Sept
14.30 Edinburgh – Kings Cross 18.51** Thurs 18th Sept
23.50 Euston Thurs 18th Sept – Glasgow Central 07.18 Fri 19th Sept
10.40 Glasgow Central – Euston 15.16 Fri 19th Sept
21.16 Euston Fri 19th Sept – Fort William 09.55 Sat 20th Sept
OBJECTIVE ACHIEVED
11.32 Fort William – Glasgow Queen Street 15.30 Sat 20th Sept
16.40 Glasgow Central – Euston 21.25 Sat 20th Sept
*Any subsequent Kings Cross train up to the 14.30 ( 18.51 arrival ) would also be practical. Use of a train later than the 09.30 would allow for some PR to be carried out in Edinburgh.
**13.30 departure would be very tight; 14.00 departure is almost caught up by the 14.30 at London; 14.30 is therefore the better choice.

It's for two charities, the Mary Hare Schools and the Railway Children. Unfortunately I don't think the forum rules will allow me to post the MyDonate donations links will they?

The timetable fanatics on here will no doubt quickly spot why we have left Fort William until the last night...

Think you'd struggle to make London again for another departure after FTW!

Exactly - which is why we've deliberately left it until last; there is only the single connection that gets me back and it would only feed into the Lowlander; that's very high risk so by putting it last it won't wreck everything if that connection misses as the objective will have been achieved upon my arrival at Fort William.

Of course, a problem on the way back could well leave me stranded somewhere overnight, that is true!

you can with permission, and as you're an already well established member and its for charity, that's fine. I suggest posting a new thread :)

Thank you Yorkie.:D

I don't know why it's that surprising to bump into Rail Staff, Enthusiast's and Spotters at Railway Stations?

Just how on earth would anyone even know something like that with enough conviction to even ask them!!

It must be me and my eccentric demeanor but for me I can sort of sense if somebodies a member on here, weird I know! It worked when I was talking to somebody on Chester station who turned out to be Sprinterman and also Ryan125hst at Liverpool Lime Street.

Not too difficult. Notepad, Camera, Anorak, Packed Lunch and standing on the end of a platform not catching a Train is usually a give away. I've identified a number of members just from there forum name, Photo's and posts.

The shy ones who do not wish to be known are a bit harder ( possibly either due too a comment made on here or the stigma attached to the hobby) they tend too pretend not to be interested when a Train passes, will turn their back, make a quick glance over their shoulder and quickly note down the number '' Your not fooling anyone'' it's time to ''Come out''.

Haha, I'm pretty sure I bumped into a pair of members (or at least enthusiasts) on EMT's last red dot day. Anyone want to own up to racking up some HST haulage?
