it seems the new barrier staff at Inverness will not allow anyone on the platforms unless they are travelling as I asked earlier if I could go and photograph this train(http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U51884/2014/10/11/advanced) later and they said no.

I will turn up at that time with a copy of ScotRail's guidelines and see what happens.

Realistically, I don't see any reason why not, the only train in the platform would be the charter, there wouldn't be any ScotRail trains for me to fare dodge onto.

*Edit*
I know staff can refuse for any reason.

I visited Inverness back in August and the gates were unmanned when I arrived back from Kyle at ~2010, so there may be no-one around to stop you ;)

So they barriered the whole station then? I had wondered whether 1 and 2 would be left open and just gate the rest but clearly not.

There are two separate gatelines, 1 & 2 and 3-6. Platform 7 is left un-barriered.

Maybe I'll be lucky!

*Edit*
Right, that's me off.

I'll report back with my findings when I get back. It'll be a shame if I'm not allowed as Inverness was always an easy station for photography.

*Edit 2*
I got through fine, although a different member of staff was on duty.
A few minutes before the train was due they opened the barriers, as they wouldn't have tickets that would open them.
