I have recently returned from touring The Scottish Highlands on the train and must have purchased, what I think, is the best value advance purchase ticket in the UK. Does anyone know a more value for money ticket than the one I traveled on the other Monday.

Edinburgh to Perth (1hr 19m)
Perth to Inverness (2hr 12m)
Inverness to Kyle Of Lochalsh (2hr 37m)

A total traveling time of 6 hours and 8 minutes on 3 trains. The cost of this advance purchase single ticket is £15.70 (although I got it for £10.35 as I have a railcard).

I'm not interested in any deals or dayrider cards but are there any other advance purchase single fares out there as good value as this one?

I noticed that one too, and yes I do think it's the best one we're going to find. I was looking at Leeds-Kyle of Localsh. It was £95 with a railcard one way or splitting with advances;

Leeds-Edinburgh £25 1st Class
Edinburgh-Kyle of Localsh- £10.35.

I did Mirfield-London for £7.35 yesterday, which I thought was good.

It's a similar situation from here in Grimsby.

When I went up I bought a single from Grimsby to Doncaster (£3.30), then a First Class Single from Doncaster to Edinburgh for the princely sum of £19.50!!

We stayed over in Edinburgh at the Travelodge just across the road from Waverley station for £24 before heading upto Plockton the following day.

Bizarrely a single from Edinburgh to Plockton was twice the price of a single to Kyle even though Plockton is two stops before Kyle, but as Plockton is an unmanned station we bought tickets to Kyle but got off at Plockton.

The first time I did the trip I wasn't sure if it would be possible to do this so I just went all the way to Kyle, found a pub and had a couple of pints and then caught the train back to Plockton (£1.70).

Brighton to Liverpool Advance Fares (Route Southern and London Midland) are £11.00 (7.50 with a railcard), pretty good availability too.

Did Crewe to Portsmouth Harbour for £6.60 (with railcard) routed Southern and London Midland only last year. Very reasonable!

There are quite a few very reasonable singles about but you need to be pretty quick on the mark to get them.

I usually visit my brother over Christmas. He lives in Surrey and I managed to get a single from Grimsby to Kings Cross for £7.95. It cost me more to get from Kings Cross to Oxted in Surrey which is where he lives!!

York to London for £5?

I guess it also depends what you mean by value. On some trains in First Class you might be able to break even, or even profit, if you go heavy on complimentary booze.
