Staffed stations during large delays

Here is an interesting one

I'm sat at Westgate Station and several East Coast trains have been hit with severe delays, one in particular now not due to arrive until 1:20am!

So what do the station staff do in these circumstances? Presumably they can't just lock up as normal and go home!

Because maybe he has a form of social anxiety and finds it hard to approach and ask questions to strangers?

Some of them are staffed through the night. Often the gap between the last and first train is only a few hours. At the station I worked at, if you were on nights you locked up after the last train around midnight, then did cleaning, and dealt with at other issues that might come up during the night. Open up again at 0500 in time for the first departure, and then be relieved by the early staff shortly after.

At some locations, the gap between late services and morning services is pretty short. Swansea springs to mind as it's near to me. AFAIK it's always been staffed through the night.

There are some stations which also have to remain open and staffed throughout the night due to unadvertised staff trains requiring dispatch. Several Southern stations spring to mind here.

And there are plenty of stations that don't have trains running through but which retain staff all night for a variety of reasons, from legacy operational purposes, to flexibility just in case of disruption, to the fact that the day is 24 Hr long which fits nicely into three shifts!
