I received a letter recently from Travel Infosystems about my subscription to Railplanner. It explains that my subscription will not be renewed as they are unable to cater any more for the needs of individual subscribers.
Although not cheap at £45 it has been a really useful tool for me over the years. It has allowed me to quickly find unusual routes and connections, and was really useful in putting together an itinerary for use with rail rovers or special cheap tickets such as the LM 'Great Escape'. It allowed connections 'via' and 'not via' particular stations (as many as you liked) or restrictions on which operators to use.
The results could be easily copied and pasted into a spreadsheet program to produce a personalised itinerary.
Can anyone suggest a good alternative. I am not looking for sites such as 'realtimetrains' which are excellent at providing information on individual trains and the equivalent of station departure boards. The TOC planning sites, while providing connections and pricing information for station to station tickets are not as good as Railplanner.
Will I need to revert to my previous method of finding workable, but obscure connections by going to WH Smiths and buying the All Great Britain timetable? (is it even produced anymore?).
