Was there a Doncaster station pilot in 1953/54?

hi, before i start, i didn't know if this should go in Traction & Rolling stock or Railway History & Nostalgia.

In the years of 1953/1954 was their a station pilot at Doncaster, if their was would it had been a 3f jinty?

Logic suggests there would certainly have been at least one; parcel traffic and attachment / detachment of carriages was a regular occurrence at most major stations

I very much doubt an ex LMS loco would be doing the job though. More likely an ex LNER 0-6-0T of some sort, I'd have thought, especially given it was only 5 or 6 years after nationalisation, so the old order would very much still be in place.

This may not be the complete story, but it would appear that 47500 spent most if not all of it's working life much further south...

Steam era station pilots came in 2 categories. One might be what are now called "Thunderbirds" - a standby loco. in case of failures, but which might perform some light shunting duties when necessary. The second type would be a station shunter, typically a 0-6-0 Tank, possibly a Class J50 or J52 until replaced by diesel shunters.

the reason for 47500 in doncaster, was because my friend came round and saw my model of ex-lms 47500 br late crest on my desk and it gave her the idea

In 1963, Donny had an L1 Tank that carried out the station pilot, the number 67787 as well of lots of J50's which took locos recently back to the shed 36A after ovehaul and vice/versa.
