Hi all.

I've got a Super Off-Peak Return, with 16-25 Railcard discount, from Bath Spa (BTH) to Leicester (LEI) via London. I've taken a break of journey in London and it is my understanding that the ticket remains valid for the unused portion, London to Leicester, so long as I travel within 30 days of the outward leg.

Assuming this is the case (and please let me know if it is not!), what is the first departure from STP on a weekday morning where the ticket is valid?

Cursory reading of the East Midlands Trains website suggests the 10:29 departure. Is this so?

Many thanks.

I can't immediately check the journey, but I would hazard a guess that the outbound is only valid for a day. I don't know of any outbounds that are valid for more than 5 days

The outward portion of a super off peak return from Bath to Leicester is valid until 0429 on day three. The outward portion is valid on services timed to depart St Pancras between 1029 and 1515 and at or after 1859.

The return portion is valid for a month. The return portion is valid on services arriving into St Pancras at or after 1126.

Break of journey is valid on both legs of the journey.

The outward leg of a super off peak return is only valid on the day of the ticket - so you can't travel to london, then stay for several days and then use the unused outbound London to Leicester portion...all travel outbound must be completed on the date of ticket.

You can however have a Break of Journey both ways. The first train Mon-Fri timed to depart from St Pancras to go to Leicester on the outbound leg must be from 10:29 onwards up to 15:14 and then from 19:00 hrs onwards.

Return leg must be a train timed to arrive in St Pancras no earlier then 11:26. Return travel must be completed in one calendar month from date of ticket - with as many breaks of journey as you like!

Cheers for all your replies! Very informative.

This is embarrassing but I got myself in a muddle writing the OP. I meant a a super off-peak return from LEI to BTH; the journey from STP to LEI is part of the return leg.

I'll definitely make extra effort to proofread my posts in future... D'oh!

In which case if your return portion is from BTH-LEI you have a month to make this journey and you may break your journey as often as you like.

Yeah, in which case you are fine for a month on the return leg, subject to the time restrictions as mentioned before

The outward leg of a super off peak return is only valid on the day of the ticket ...all travel outbound must be completed on the date of ticket.

Incorrect - what Hadders wrote was more accurate.
