Oh dear, it certainly hasn't been all plain sailing in the early days of this new Caledonian Sleeper franchise. :|

Tonight, 86101 allox 1S25, 87002 allox 1M16 as result of last night's difficulties.

And yes, 86101 can ETH the train if the set has been pre-heated, apparently.

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
This is, quite frankly, a joke! Great for the enthusiasts but to anyone else it just looks likeanother daft mistake made by a government who dont really have a clue. Sorry, but Serco shouldnt have been allowed to touch this, or the Northlink Ferrys opperation and I hear there now 1 of 2 bidders for the Western Isles ferrys.

A failed train is a failed train Im afraid - it happens over the whole network regularly yet I don't see you saying other operators should never have been given their franchises.

Also wasn't it the Scottish Governemnt who awarded it to Serco?

Disagree. The sleepers have a long and varied list of 'bad days' with DBS, EWS and BR - when they go tits up, they tend to go big style and last night just seems to have been coincidence of two separate issues on the same night. S25 issues were to do with the stock, not the loco as such, so can't see how Serco can't be blamed for that after 2 weeks of operations. If however, things continue to fall down as per last night on a regular basis, then you may have a point...

Didn't think the 92s would be so unreliable, great to see 87002 stepping up was trying to find a way to get to to Inverkeithing for 1M16 but too tight after work and too much coin, gutted to miss out on this but it might not be the last time it happens!

How is a locomotive failure the fault of Serco?

Well maybe use a Locomotive supplier that has locomotives that are reliable enough and have enough of them not have to resort to some ancient Semi Preserved Loco's, Oh and we have still got the joy's of the rebuilt 73 to come:lol:

21st century railway what a joke.

Oh I hope Transport for Scotland have managed to get most of the Scottish Network electrified by the end of the next franchise otherwise they are going to have a lot of old diesel trains that need replacing not only the clapped out HST's but all those 1st gen sprinters that are going to be kept in pref to newer 170's:lol:

I don't understand, if they had cancelled the train then fair enough but they had another loco stand in that could do the job, what is the problem? :|

To anyone else its a train.

It was actually the coaches that failed, fault in the ETS wiring. This didn't stop it working, but tripped the circuit breaker in the 92. The 87 was OK as they had the equivalent circuit breaker removed long ago...

1M11 showing cancelled at the Keynes 08.52, ouch.
1S25 was 'only' 70 late at Inverness / 77 late Aberdeen / 111 Fort Bill...

I should think that the majority of passengers will notice when their train arrives at it's destination between one and two hours late, as last nights' Highland sleeper has done this morning. This could cause quite a problem for any passengers with onward travel connections to make, or those with time critical business appointments to keep.

Also note that the southbound "Lowland" sleeper was cancelled at Milton Keynes this morning, at which point, according to Real Time Trains, it was nearly three hours late. Presumably sleeper passengers will have had to make onward connections from there in order to reach London at all.

Strange that I can't see any mention of either of these events on the Caledonian Sleepers' twitter feed - Would have at least expected some disgruntled passengers to pass comment.

Looks like Fort William passengers won't have arrived at their destination until almost lunchtime (11:46).

One query that popped to mind was how many of the crew are signed off on the 87 who also sign the WCML?

And we can expect many more such failures thanks to the choice of Serco to pursue loco hauled sets for the lowland rather than entering the 21st Century with EMUs.
