PTSO or platform depending on the weather
Believe it to have derailed on route to station from Lovers.

A picture in the Eastbourne Herald shows the errant 377 partially blocking the main line adjacent to the depot. There is a 442 trapped behind it

I believe it was a SPAD. Not a great day, combined with all the axle counter failures over on the east coast!

It's so nice to be on a double rest day off, enjoying this weather and not having yet another bad day in the office. :D

We had a run of axel counter failures about 2 to 3 months after commissioning the worst being the catch 22 failure that you couldn't reset.

Apparently all power off between Haywards Heath and Brighton with replacement buses being planned

Network Rail texted me for the first time ever to say: "Major disruption to Brighton services until end of service today. London Bridge and Victoria stations are expected to be very busy."

So looks like it's going to cause a few issues!

Interestingly, I've just noticed on the Thameslink train tracker that if a train is running earlier than expected it's still marked as 'Delayed'. That's slightly confusing to me! :D

I'm surprised the forum hasn't gone mad on a campaign to free the 442

I was upset it wasn't the 442 that had derailed instead of the 377. Mind you, it might be difficult to get a 442 back on the rails in one piece.

Are any trains running to Haywards Heath from Clapham Junction at all? National Rail Enquiries just shows delayed or cancelled or on time but I'm not sure I can trust the on time as the trains haven't left yet.

I'm heading from Surbiton to Haywards Heath but I don't want to get stuck at Clapham Junction upon finding no trains are running south towards Brighton. Unfortunately it's the period where no fast trains run from of Clapham Junction so if I do go there and can't get south I have to wait 45 minutes or more to head back down south to Guildford.

If I stay at Surbiton I can get a fast train to Woking much sooner.

Thanks.

Sure enough the 17.27 from Victoria to Ore which was on time is now delayed. At one time is was going to be 3 minutes late.

Other trains are running though so I assume the people amending the information online didn't know the train was going to leave late. I suspect it's missing it's crew or they need to take a break.

Saying that the 17.05 from Haywards Heath to Eastbourne is delayed and you'd hope by now someone would know why. Perhaps there isn't the man power to keep up to date with the disruption. They do run a lot of trains.

Slowly restoring things - the E/W Coastways are back into Brighton and there was at the last count - 2 and by now 4 platforms main line in service. Down fast blocked by the unit which has derailed one car - so a torrid evening and a threat to the am peak....

No speculation please as to the cause - this will come out in due course. The professionals are hard at it restoring services and infrastructure.....

I think that it's the up main that's blocked :D

Maybe it's a 23 hours 57 late runner from yesterday

;)

Sorry - yes indeed - the track circuit interupter did it's job and has therefore blocked it from a signalling point of view - of course the derailed unit may be foul of it in any case.
