Glop / Sander question (for assessment next week)

Hi

Is glop / sanding one and the same thing?

I have my trainee driver assessment next week and this is not something I'm familiar with as a TE. I've seen the cab 'sander' button, and that's as far as my knowledge extends!

Can anyone help prep me for the possible questions please?

You don't need any prior knowledge to take the test (which is part of the Trainability for Rules and Procedures test). It's purely a listening comprehension and recall exercise. "Glop" is there to give it a railway context.

You will be given a printed copy of the procedure in question, and it will also be read out. You can make notes, but you aren't allowed to refer to them (or the printed text) whilst answering the questions.

This test is about reading new information and being able to retain it in order to answer the questions based on that information.

All I would say is, make notes on key points using bullet points. This will help you to recall what you have just learnt.

If you are after actual answers to the questions in the test, I think you are in the wrong place!

No redron, I was after advice. I'm not looking for the test answers, and didn't ask for them in my OP, just some prep help on what may be asked

Now I know I don't need working knowledge re sanding etc, I can relax a little, and see that section more as a memory test.

that's exactly what it is!....a memory test!

attention to detail is very much key with this one as you may have two answers that are worded exactly the same but one of them has words in capital letters and one of them doesn't and obviously only one of them is right!

for example

"Tara100 has just posted this on railuk forums"

"Tara100 has JUST posted this on railuk forums"

that kind of thing

The key is to memorise key parts of the paragraph that is read to you, it is common sense really. To practice I would get a cutting from a news paper, get someone to read it to you, and then ask questions on the key points of the article, this will be a good practice for the test.

Just relax and you'll be fine.

On this test there isn't actually that much information to take in and you should have enough time to make notes and read the text a few times, as well as hearing the audio.

As with all the tests, try to relax and make sure you understand exactly what you are required to do. If you don't, ask them to clarify before a test begins.
