How much to excess Brighton > Victoria to Saint Pancras?

I've got a Brighton to Victoria season ticket. Does anyone know how much it would cost to excess it for a single journey from Brighton to St Pancras?

Hoping it's less than the £2.30 tube fare

The season ticket has no route/TOC restrictions.

The RailUK Fares & Ticketing Guide - Section 4 - Excesses, Upgrades & Supplements states that a season ticket cannot be excessed in your situation.

So it looks like you'll have to buy a separate ticket. You mention £2.30, being the tube fare from Victoria to St Pancras, but if you wanted to travel on National Rail through the Thameslink corridor, I wonder if you would have to buy a ticket from East Croydon, being the point where your London Victoria ticket splits off from the Thameslink route?

I agree, its going to be a ticket from East Croydon that's needed. A paper ticket could be bought in Brighton, meaning you won't need to change trains, and is £3.95 with Gold Card discount.

Thank you, yes, I'd prefer to go all the way through to St P on the Thameslink - I have a London Terminals to Manchester ticket and walking from St P to Euston is a lot less hassle than getting the tube from Victoria.

But an East Croydon to St P is £6 at least so I'll just have to bear the tube

It's only £3.95, not £6, as you have the Gold Card discount by virtue of holding a Gold card

It's not a gold card, it's a weekly, sorry for not making that clear.

Looking at the Routeing Guide. Maps VB & LB indicate that you can travel from Brighton to Victoria via Crystal Palace (if you were that way inclined ), so your season ticket is valid up to Norwood Junction, which means you can get a (cheaper) ticket from there instead and, in accordance with National Rail Conditions of Carriage section 19(c), your train does not need to call at Norwood Junction.

Thinking a bit more, I wonder if you could get a ticket from Crystal Palace, which is cheaper yet? Not sure about that though.

Thanks, a single from Norwood to St P looks like it's a similar price to the one from East Croydon. I'm going to stick to the tube I think.

Even if the season was to London Terminals, a single from City Thameslink to St Pancras would have been needed, at a cost of £2.80.

A Brighton to Victoria ticket is valid as far north as Sydenham on the route to St Pancras - verified by National Rail Enquires. A single from Sydenham to St Pancras for £4.20 would be sufficient.

It's probably best to stick with the tube option, less walking involved at the King's Cross end that way!

Your season ticket is valid to Herne Hill on a Thameslink train using map VB. It's £3.20 to St. Pancras from there with a paper "not Underground" ticket, though. It's cheaper on Oyster, but I don't know if any of the station layouts en route make it easy to change from one to the other.

No - as we often discuss, not normally! Cross-London journeys are not permitted on London Terminals tickets, ie. crossing between termini on either side of Central London, such as Blackfriars to Euston. The previously debated, and rather debatable, possible exception could be tickets to or from London Terminals marked "+ Any Permitted".

No London Terminals ticket can be used to pass Farringdon on Thameslink core, with the exception of some HS1 tickets.

Took the tube from Vic to Euston in the end, by the time Victoria tube station gets lifts we'll be getting everywhere by personal jetpack
