Probably a stupid idea, but wouldn't it be cool if the few peak trains that have the 20 minute journey of Colchester-Manningtree-Ipswich could go to Mistley also? They could do this by reversing and using North Junction. Really stupid thought, but it would be an added bonus to the people of Mistley and I always see those trains pretty empty.

Mistley is a small place and can only accomodate trains of four carriage length in passenger service. Also the crossover at Mistley is only signalled for ECS moves.

Anything like this would only be done if Abellio see money in doing it, if the potential extra money exceeds the extra costs, if there is profit in it in other words, then they may start to consider considering actually doing it. Everything will have to be ran past various different people, Network Rail and the Department for Transport (I believe).

Operationally, if it were to happen, it'd be a nightmare as soon as things go wrong.

Doubt it would be politically acceptable either with people after faster journeys in that area.

In short... No.

You mean peak services from Liverpool Street? I doubt the commuters on those trains would agree with you on that one.

No, the services from Colchester to Ipswich. I also didn't know about the ECS thing.

Keep fishing and you may come up with a good idea, but this isn't it ;)

Which happen to start at London Liverpool Street? I was under the impression that the vast majority of Colchester - Ipswich services have a 20 minute journey time, irrespective of their origin point.

And your point is? There are a few services starting at Colchester and terminating at Ipswich. Take the 718 from Manningtree, for example.

I've been over that crossover with a passenger train.

Along with Orangeman with flag I assume.

Most definatley not. Just went back with the aid of the position light at the London end of the down platform with the diverted 20:30 Liv St-Norwich around 10yrs ago as recently mentioned in another thread about Manningtree N Jcn.

It is one thing to do an ad-hoc move with the signallers permission, a whole different kettle of fish to be able to do so on a planned basis. Network Rail even frown on starting a passenger train on a shunt signal with a hand signaller provided these days.
