That's the last 387/1 isn't it? So is it now straight onto the Gatwick 387/2s or is there a bit of a gap in construction?

101/102 still at Derby so not finished. They don't stay on the first 387/2 until next month so there will be a gap with first /2 going on the network (commissioning) in October-ish.

Its first trip in passenger service was this working. Leaves the following five units yet to be in service,

101 - at Derby
102 - at Derby
104 - commissioning at Bletchley
128 - at Lovers Walk, should be in service this week
129 - commissioning at Bletchley

can someone please explain why the doors on the 387 stock are green? All the hype about new trains, and govia basically give us more southern trains.

I just miss when thameslink had its own identity. They could've at least made an effort...

Clearly it's Great Western green ;)

- Yes I know, the rolling stock announcement was made well after the Class 387 order.

You've got new trains and you're complaining about the colour of the doors?

Ahhhh, I must have simply been lucky or not seen it on the 377/5s I saw plenty of last month!

The 377/5 fleet washing is done by Thameslink and the 387 by Southern. There is a difference however the white of the 387s shows the dirty up on the corners where as the purple or green on the corner of the 377s hide it.

Yup, even the LO trains show the dirt badly at the corners/indents that are a trademark of the Electrostar family.

By comparison, a white AGA 317 can manage to look very clean all over. Obviously when cleaned, although I find them to be clean most of the time (on West Anglia).

Dirt !. Thats not just any old dirt. That is splatted flies surely ?. Er from last summer .

Seriously though - I believe the doors tend to be a contrasting colour to help partially sighted people find them. As they work on Southern (well TSGN I suppose) they favoured green doors. Its better than the washed out looking white 319s.

But, in the grand scheme of things, its nice to only have such a minor thing as door colours to worry about. So be thankful. It would take my mind of finding a seat or even managing to get on the crowded train :(.

117 was making an horrendous hoover-like noise pulling into City Thameslink on the 17:20 Bedford-TBD last night! 118 was on the front.

Some grinding & whining also occurred sporadically all the way from CTK to Redhill.
Trying to pinpoint what it was. I think it might have been an aircon issue but not sure.

Is this normal overbearing aircon or something more ominous?

Reading that reminded me of a similar experience I had on a 387, with a sort of hoover-like noise and a bit of whining. Checking back when I posted it here, it was also 387117.

That was way back in January though, so if there's a fault I'd like to think it's not the same one!

Could it be the compressor, the ones on 387's are like the old type alla 319's, and you hear them running including starting and stopping.

I thought it might be the compressor too.

From 1.05 in this video you can hear the compressor on the 387s (as well as 377/6 & 377/7) https://youtu.be/yNJJIBgN_2I

Much more noticeable than the older ones, which can be heard starting up from 3.33 in this video https://youtu.be/uYBGVvF5pO4

I was on coach 7 of 8...so the third coach of 117. The non-toilet intermediate coach.

It was similar to the 377 in your last video, however it was on full blast constantly but also grinding noises as well.

Dare I say it; almost reminiscent of the powercar noise in Eurostar coach 1/18! It was very audible going through Crystal Palace tunnel.

It is also very reminiscent of the compressor in a class 313, albeit quieter.
