Anyone got any experience with covering the entire metrolink in one day? (Only bit I've got is the central triangle and out to old trafford.) Beginning the day in Stalybridge if it helps.

Very brief as on mobile but should be easily doable in one day, although for a bit more time doing the Airport one way by train would probably assist

Or bus to Altrincham. Although if doing this make sure it's a route 18 bus that you catch.

Same with Rochdale, with bus connections available to Bury (route 471)

One way to the airport, heavy rail to East Didsbury, walk to East Didsbury tram stop saves lots of time.

As does : heavy rail to Rochdale, tram Rochdale Station - Town, back to Manchester.

With a Tram and Train ticket, my current (rough) plan is Stalybridge to Ashton, Change onto Metrolink to Eccles/Media city. once I've done that, head back to Cornbrook, Change onto Airport line, tram to the Airport, change to mainline and do Airport to East Didsbury and then change back to Metrolink, Metrolink to Rochdale TC, back to the rail station, Train into Manchester, then Metrolink to Bury before heading back to Altringham and then Train to Stockport and home.

Let me guess you are aiming for a certain once a week service from Stockport to Stalybridge as well ;)

Doable, even with a diversion to do the Dinting triangle during evening peak.

Cheers for the help, but do to educational reasons, I'm having to delay the trip by a few weeks.
