Disruption round Oxford for most of today.
What are passengers supposed to make of this item on NRE at 1653:
A signalling problem near Oxford means trains are unable to run between Oxford and Charlbury.
Journey times will be extended by up to 60 minutes. This is expected to continue until end of service.
Buses are running between Oxford and Banbury / Charlbury

It trains are unable to run between Oxford and Charlbury, doesn't that put the skids under the entire Oxford-Worcester service?
The NR twitter sidebar twice said during the day that lines were open with delays.
Why are buses running between Oxford and Banbury if the problem is on the Worcester line?

Just another example of NRE getting the scope of its bulletins wrong/misleading.

(Sorry would be better in General Discussion area)

This was down to a bird being between the points at Wolvercote Junction 287, on the down line nearest the cess (see photo)

Points would have been set as per photo. 287 is the closest set of points.

Nice pic. So is the Up ladder out of use then?
That would explain Down Cotswold trains being able to operate but not the Up.
Disruption until at least 1200 tomorrow as well I see.
Must have been a big bird (pheasant?)!

Yes, up ladder is OOU.

Only way I can see them balance sets out tomorrow is to run Up trains via Cheltenham & Swindon where Route knowledge allows. Will be a rostering headache as there is often driver swaps which takes place at Oxford, and not many Oxford and London LTV crews sign the road via Swindon

It would appear that 2 up HSTs made it through the affected section this morning with later trains shuttling between Charlbury, Worcester etc

Looks like disruption is expected for the rest of today as well

It appears so. Points moved manually on the ground for this to happen. Repairs being made to mechanism throughout the day with testing tonight. A few down Herefords will go that way tonight but use of the up ladder is not required
