Station announcer C03 - job description.

Hey - got assessments coming up for this role on Thursday and have near enough forgotten the job role/description for the position, is anyone here able to tell me what's involved or ever if they do this job what they have to do?

Also got my interview for gateline staff coming up so any pointers for that would be good

Unless its moved on since my time - which it has with automated announcements now at the cross - basically your day is announcing the trains and posting the platforms onto the CIS.

When I worked qa night you had to make sure that you updated the next days pages with any engineering works/buses taking place manually to override it but that was about it really.

Yeah that's I thought it was remembering from the job description, was wondering if there was anything else involved or not. Job is based at Basingstoke, which is a pretty busy station.

Youll be kept busy then I should imagine there. Im not up on FGW operations but I cant see there being to much different and if theres no auto announcement then make sure you have some sweets with you to keep your mouth lubricated.

Its not with FGW its with another TOC which runs from Basingstoke which I don't want to name in case it somehow goes against me. Hopefully I get the job, its something I would be good at I hope. But its a major career change for me so I'm hoping that doesn't go against me, Chef to Rail industry, hope it all plays out well.

Well if it's not FGW out of Basingstoke, surely there's only 1 TOC it can be? Unless AGA decide to re-start that cross london service.

It is stating the obvious I know but I'm pretty sure they screen forums etc before recruiting and the like.

There are two other TOCs that operate through Basingstoke as well as FGW.

I'm the manager at SWT and your no longer invited to assessment!!!! Only kidding!!!
Why don't you got to the station and speak to the current CO3 and ask them questions and ask to speak to the manager about the station. I did this when I first started and got the job!!
Don't worry about the TOC finding out as there's no harm in asking for advice... In fact it can go in your favour.

Liaising with control staff in times of disruption so that any service alterations are communicated to staff and passengers at the station, including helping with arrangements for alternative transport. You'll be coordinating assisted travel too for your station, so phoning other stations and taking phone-calls so that passengers requiring assistance are met by staff. And you'll be the go to point for information on the station, staff will ask you all numbers of questions, typically about how to get to a particular station, and you'll have to look up the answers normally on your computer. From colleagues in the role I know it can be pretty dull at times when everything is going well, but incredibly stressful in time of disruption. As you can probably see communication is one of the biggest parts of the role.

Thanks, sounds like fun if I'm honest with you! I may be coming from a different career but working under pressure and communicating well play a major part in working in a kitchen which I have been doing for the last 4 years, I do both very well so hopefully if I do get passed the assessments and to the interview stage they can see where I'm coming from

I cover C03 as part of the relief staff and would say, obviously - number one, communication (good and clear), calm under pressure, can think on your feet, team player also good at forward planning so you can see the delays coming before the CIS starts going haywire!

If its anything like ours you will be constantly adjusting it especially for late running terminating trains. It will show the next leg of the journey on time even though its so late its still 4 stations away.

All fun and games. As said above when its easy its very easy and when its bad you will need to be an octopus with two phones and a radio attached to your head lol

Good luck! Learning the phonetic alphabet will help too for when you are talking to the signallers.
