One now at Hendon involving 1D57 :(

1D57 remains at a stand near Silkstream Jn having made an emergency brake application and reported striking a person. A few delayed trains are now moving on the Slow [Relief] lines towards the incident and will be able to start to pass in the next minute or two.

Got caught up in the 1D57 incident tonight as my northbound Thameslink train was held at City Thameslink. The driver of our train was very apologetic and made an announcement about the problem straight away. Information from Thameslink staff was pretty good and they seemed to have arranged ticket acceptance for alternative routes quickly. Most passengers seemed to understand the situation once they had been told about the train hitting a person at Hendon.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of the person struck by the train as well as the driver of 1D57 and all emergency staff who had to deal with the aftermath.

Have to agree, I was on the train directly behind, and the driver was excellent. Explained everything sensitively, and gave regular updates. I didn't hear any adverse comments on the train as a result. Just shows what good communication does.

I was travelling from Kentish Town to Borehamwood. There was no announcement at Kentish Town, no notice explaining what happened. The (underground) staff at the station knew nothing about what was going on.
The departure board showed a train 2 hours ago as "delayed" with no arrival time, and a train terminating at West Hampstead being over 20 minutes late.

After waiting about 20 minutes, I gave up waiting and took the underground to Edgware and then take bus 107/292 to Borehamwood. Fortunately I can do this - I would be left high and dry if I lived in Radlett or St. Albans.

When I arrived at Elstreee & Borehamwood station at about 22:30, the departure board showed the next train as "delayed" with no projected arrival time - I assume all the trains before had been cancelled?

They seem to have got trains running past the scene pretty quickly but nevertheless ongoing delays and cancellations with gaps of an hour or more between northbound trains stopping at Elstree and Borehamwood throughout the evening.

Seemed to be a service every 30 mins after about 10pm. I typically just sit it out at work until rush hour is over and lines re-open.

Information available at Blackfriars was woeful. Unsurprisingly, underground station didn't mention the delays. The passenger information screens on the concourse listing the new few services was blank. The 'next service to' screens had some information, but alternated with a 'special notice' that failed to have any text...

I got on a train just before 7pm from City Thameslink which crawled through the core, then spend probably 30 minutes at a standstill at West Hampstead. The driver was apologetic and explained that the lines had to be closed again to allow passengers to be taken off the train involved.

At the stations the staff were doing a good job of making announcements but the screens weren't showing any useful information so I understand people being frustrated if they were at an unstaffed station.

When I got to St Albans there were coaches parked up - I assume these were running between St Albans and Hatfield as is normal in times of disruption.

It was a delay of about an hour and a half but I think they did their best.

It seemed almost a repeat of the incident at Radlett last week.

It was the southbound customers who would probably have been most aggrieved. I went through Hendon on a southbound service (which becomes peak south of the river) just before the incident so was on time and knew nothing about it until later. Signaller then terminated me at Gatwick when I should have been all stations from East Croydon to Brighton. Asked why I was terminating signaller didn't know. This in turn led me to tell my passengers I didn't know. Cue lots of (understandable) grumbling - especially when the train was on time!

Leading on from that, another all stations 12 car service to Brighton got terminated at Haywards Heath to work back north on time. Was pretty full at the time though it was admittedly running pretty late. I'm sure there will have been others.

It's normally north of the river services that suffers from incidents on the south so I suppose the south side can't grumble too much now it's the other way round... ;)

So some trains were running. Unfortunately, I did not know about it because no announcements or electronic board told me. Had I known about this, I would have waited at Kentish Town until another train came along, rather than took more than an hour to get home by underground + bus.

I assume you cannot claim compensation for this type of delays.

This is the second time this happened in a week. I may need to start carrying some emergency food on my way home if this goes on.
