Sleeper fares

With Passenger numbers falling on the Sleeper over the last couple of years surely Serco must look at the prices for people joining the service at Crewe or Preston?.

If you you travel from London-Fort William booking through Seco the fare is exactly the same if you join at Crewe or Preston £79 for example to Fort William seated ticket.

If you buy a normal anytime return from Crewe-Fort William it is £144.90 only thing you need to do is reserve a seat or berth on top. Don't understand why the fares are not cheaper from Crewe or Preston same applies to Sleeper tickets as well??

The problem is they can't sell seats from London - Crewe to make up the lost revenue from reducing the Crewe - Scotland fare.

For the same reason, Eurostar tickets cost the same whether you are leaving from St Pancras, Ebbsfleet or Ashford.

They CAN/COULD sell (and accept) London-Crewe tickets (and take a slice of the ORCATS), but the problem is limited seating availability. Crewe/Preston are currently Pick Up only stops on the way North, Set Down Only on the way South, but if they fill the train with London-Crewe, or London-Preston passengers, there's not likely to be enough room for Scottish bound pax.

If they could fit a spare Mk3 standard seating coach into the rake then it would probably be looked at, but there's no room at Euston for such a length.

If the Edinburgh sleeper called at Preston I would be able to use it. Without that the Sleeper is sadly useless to me

I wasn't talking about a huge difference in fare maybe 10% difference would be fair. I cant see it being a huge factor considering the price of Berths cost as much as £235 in some cases.I think more people use the seated accommodation on the lowland sleeper.

As for there response time to emails leaves a lot to be desired :roll:

If you get off at Crewe the seat is useless to them for the rest of the journey, so why should they offer it at a discount?

Didn't mean in relation to people getting off at Crewe just people boarding ....why should they pay the same fare as Euston Passengers?

It's the same deal in both directions- they can't fill the seat between London and Crewe (or vice versa) so why would they charge people less?

Seated tickets too expensive surely if there are loads of empty seats near to the date reduce the price to £65 surely thats better than an empty train. More passengers=more revenue in Lounge car as well.

Serco new to this we know but even before the franchise was taken over by them the signs where bad, and there response off enquiry's via email is nothing short of a joke.....they don't respond!!!!
