Hi,
Does anyone know what is happening with First Group in Glasgow. We are hearing lots of rumours about First pulling out of Cumbernauld, again, and that the Simplicity branding on buses is about to be dropped.

I stress that these are only rumours, but does anybody have any knowledge of these ?

Thomas

One thing I have noticed recently is that the vinyls on the rear on some of the SimpliCITY-branded E300s have been removed.

Whether their removal is related to the rumor that the SimpliCITY brand getting dropped, I don't know.

Lets take each point:

Cumerbernauld

Are the rumours linked to recent service changes? X5 and FSE X37 and X39 where revised because the Scotrail controls placed on them were scarped, hence the reductions. So instead of five buses at night its only two.

Whats left is X3 and X5, I cant seem them coming off yet. X3 is every 20mins and has no competition to the likes of Muirhead, Moodiesburn and westfield. No38 also operate up to Muirhead.

X5, is a bit iffy, the only part it gets to its self to and from Glasgow is Condorrat. It does have competition from Cavanan No45 every 7/8 to the Town centre.

The Simplicity brand has just been added to the timetables.

What could be the main reason the branding being taken off the buses? Well I bet it boils down to the fleet replacement due for Glasgow. Don't ask what on earth is on the cards, since its changed from last year. I've heard even more deckers could be on the way to replace E300, which will get shipped out, but who knows......

Hi,

That reply "overthewater" makes sense. Thanks

Thomas

First time for everything ;)

I would not rule out further changes to the Cumbernauld routes, mainly the X5. Of course if first wanted to make cuts it could direct/ re-routes the X37/X39 Via Moodiesburn main village to replace X3, but again who knows.

Its seems the rumours must be linked to Stagecoach Glasgow forthcoming changes in the Cumbernauld area.

X28: http://www.travelinescotland.com//pdfs/timetables/FSAX028.pdf

Will be revised to operate via Condorrat and via Cumbernauld Town Centre, before arriving at Seafar. It would have made more since to operate via Seafar then into the town centre.

X25 http://www.travelinescotland.com//pdfs/timetables/FSAX025A.pdf

It will no longer via Seafar in the evenings. It does look like North Carbrain Road section has been taken off.

I seen a few of the Scotstoun E300's that have been de-branded, and a couple of the Dumbarton 'The One' branded E300's have also been de-branded.

I wonder if the de-branded Scotstoun E300's are going to be used on the new 77 when it launches...

I think that is a possibility they may get used for new 77 service to Glasgow South hospital but also the City Centre-Clydebank shorts and City Centre-Drumchapel "One" services are now being run by geminis now so that's possibly the reason for the de-branding

8x Dumbarton E300s have recently been transferred to Scotstoun and will lose their one branding for use on the 77.

They have been replaced by 12 double deck Volvo's from Caledonia for use on the short 1s to Clydebank and the 1C to Drumchapel.

Rumours of more E400s due to arrive as well as Streetlites.

That's correct the e500's look as though they are moving to Aberdeen and E400's are being brought in to replace these particularly likely for the 4 and 75 routes which are mainly e500 workings at the moment.
