I may have missed it in another thread, but just passed the site of the future Edinburgh International Gateway station and noticed that the platform faces have started going in. A few new signal bases between Dalmeny and South Gyle as well. I may be that way again tomorrow, will try to get a few photos if possible.

I'd hope there was more than just a couple of bases in for the upgraded signalling out to Inverkeithing as its due to be commissioned in a few weeks.

When I passed that way two weeks ago, it looked as if the new signals were all installed, with their hinged posts folded down.

I wasn't sure exactly how many there were as I was in a passing train and I only actually saw three or four of them. It did look like signals which were folded down but I didn't want to state for sure that is what they were.

This will be a major bonus for Fifers planning on using Edinburgh Airport.

No long suffering the irritation of sweeping within sight of it on the train knowing that it will be around an hour before you see it again.

I wonder if this will change the viability of the buses though.

Not just Fifers - when I'm travelling home from Edinburgh Airport I have to head all the way into Haymarket to pass the airport again heading north.

I suspect the 747 will stop serving Inverkeithing station, but since it serves both Ferrytoll and Halbeath park and rides it will probably continue to run.

You'll love it.

On Monday I arrived at Stirling station at 12:30, bought my train ticket, took the service to Edinburgh Park, bought my tram ticket and was through security and in the departure lounge at 13:50.

It makes such a difference from the pre-tram days - trailing all the way to Haymarket, then being thrown about on the aggressively driven Airport bus on a pot-holed road as it bounces its way along Corstorphine Road etc - usually arriving at the airport around 90 minutes after first passing it.

I just hope Gogar station is a better interchange option than Edinburgh Park. Bitterly cold, practically no shelter for the 15 minutes you might be waiting for a tram and no customer loos at this major international interchange station.

How is it going to work with South Gyle station being so close?
Since the fast trains don't stop at Inverkeithing these days, if they stop at Gogar they'll be more or less back to the old timetable with one stop between Haymarket and Kirkaldy. My layman's guess is that the stoppers won't be hurt by an additional stop, if they are then they can alternate between stopping at South Gyle and Gogar.

Do 747s not touch down on the runway?:D
