Hello all i want some advice on what TOCS will penalise you if you leave halfway through the training to join another TOCS training programme.

Will the new TOC you are joing look down on you for leaving half way through another training programme?

and what TOC's penalise you for leaving? Because someone i know in on a trainee course and he tried to go for [Mod - company name removed] interviews and [Mod - company name removed] says if he leaves he will have to pay £X

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Sorry, can't answer your question, but for me a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.
Your friend is on a course and wants to jeopardize that for the possibility of a job elsewhere?

Foot's in the door. Stick with what they've got and move over to [Mod - company name removed] in the future after they've been driving for a year or two.

Also, your friend will need to analyse the contract they signed to see what recourse [Mod - company name removed] have and then it'll likely depend on whether they wish to chase it up. However, as they've already issued a warning, they may well be more inclined to.

Just my two cents.

Why doesn't your friend read his contract.

Also there was a post on here where [Mod - company name removed] wanted someone to cease their application with [Mod - company name removed] so I doubt if your mate rocked up to a [Mod - company name removed] driver manager interview and said he was willing to leave [Mod - company name removed] programme to join them he'd be very well looked upon.

Also I think in any industry alarm bells would be ringing let alone one where they spend thousands training you.

From a Company point of view.

Do they-
A/ employ and pay out thousands to train someone who they believe will stay with you long term.
B/ employ and pay out thousands to train someone who they believe will probably get bored after a couple of years and go get a job with an Inter City TOC.

Which category do you think your 'friend' will fall in?

Tbh, I'd be surprised if he has to,pay anything at this point as he has no qualified. The payback clause is to prevent people completing all their training at toc a's expense and getting their key and a few weeks later jumping to toc b as a qualified driver with toc b paying nothing for the training, except their routes.

There is a question you are asked during an interview to give examples of when you started doing a programme and made sure you went the full course. The reason is to find out if you will not quit half way...if [Mod - company name removed] find out you are quiting another programme they will think you will also quit their training if something better comes up....they may alert [Mod - company name removed] about your application

To jepadise his/hers training to go somewhere else is madness in my eyes... There's thousands who'd give their right arm to be excepted on a training program with a toc, to think about leaving one to join another?, with possibility of ruining it all for themselves?? Just seems some don't realise how lucky they are!!

Oh dear, I'm always fairly positive these forums are monitored by managers of various TOC's. Could make it interesting in the [Mod - company name removed] training class tomorrow, with them all knowing that someone in there is thinking of jumping ships...
