MODS PLEASE MOVE (if in wrong place)

Hello I am planning on travelling to York on the 22nd May and on the Rail Enquires website it says possible rail strike action. Does anyone know what this strike action is and when it would be confirmed and which routes it would affect?

Thanks.

Also it seems to cheaper to get a return from Macclesfield to Manchester and then a return from picc to York then buy a anytime from Macc to York... Am I looking at this correct.

I'm having to travel peak in the morning, to get to York for 10 am, maybe a little earlier but def no later. In terms of coming back I should be done by 12 but will prob take advantage of looking around the Railway museum. I have looked at advanced but does not seem to be available for the 22nd May. It looks like my best option is a ticket from Macc to MAN then a day return MAN to YORK?

Also if I pre booked my seats/tickets and the strike went ahead would I be able to get a refund on the tickets as I fear that alternative arrangements by the TOC may take longer.
Thanks.

Why should the mods move? Are they sitting on your spot? :)

The National Rail Enquiries website mentions the potential for industrial action by RMT & TSSA members.

The issue seems to be about pay. From the TSSA at

TSSA starts strike ballot over Network Rail's four year pay offer
30 April 2015

Union accuses Network Rail of "scare tactics" to win vote.

A second rail union, the TSSA, begins a strike ballot tomorrow (May 1) on a four year pay offer from Network Rail

The result of the ballot by more than 3,000 NR staff will be declared on May 15, a week after the General Election.

Union general secretary Manuel Cortes accused senior management of using "scare tactics" in their fight to persuade staff against industrial action.

He cited a management briefing paper to staff warning they will lose bonuses worth up to £750 if they take a single day of strike action.

"We have not seen these sort of bully boy tactics since HR boss Peter Bennett was in his prime and breaking employment laws with impunity.

"He has long gone and we thought NR under Mark Carne was turning over a new leaf when it came to industrial relations.

"Sadly these sort of scare tactics shows they are going backwards, not forwards, when it comes to improving management-staff relations."

In the briefing paper, NR says staff have done better than nurses and teachers on pay in recent years and there four year offer would keep them ahead of these groups.

For this year, all staff would get a one off £500 payment with RPI increases in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Mr Cortes added, "David Cameron told bosses recently to give workers a pay rise. He is right, they need a rise, not a pay cut like NR are proposing for our members this year."

If your train is cancelled and you choose not to travel, then you can get a full refund.
