Newcourt Station opening next week?

Aloha!

I noticed on a trip down to Exmouth yesterday that Newcourt is looking pretty much done and dusted with the PIS, shelter, no-help point, and what looked remarkably like a TVM all in place.

Sure enough, on my return to Central, a poster was up saying it would be opening on either the 17th or 19th (I was being pushed along by a horde of fellow passengers so couldnt focus!)

Any news on Cranbrook opening? or is it still besieged by Lesser Spotted Siberian Nematodes?

RealTimeTrains seems to suggest the first day of service for Exeter Newcourt (station code NCO) will by Sunday 17th May as that is when it seems to first appear in the schedules on that site: there is nothing for it on Saturday 16th:

Obviously great news for those living in the surrounding area of Newcourt. Are there any predicted passenger usage numbers out there? Is it going to be getting the half-hourly (like Digby, Topsham) or the hourly (like St James Park, Polsloe Bridge, Exton) service?

When was the last time there was a new station on the FGW network?

This summer according to the most recent report and it does not appear to be just the lizards that are causing the delay

Sadly, this station won't be opening on Sunday or Tuesday according to the Friends of Newcourt Station. Looks to be regulatory issues and should open within weeks.

Well it's only hearsay, but I was told the ORR refused to issue the relevant paperwork because the platform height did not meet their criteria.

I believe that it is 25mm to low for a unit such as the Class 150s.

So its not a problem except for the fact the inspector wont put the tick in the box! :roll:

Send the inspector to Redruth down platform. Quite a jump down.

So will this mean a thick layer of tarmac and edging adjustment?

They've put a Harrington Hump there. There is a reason to use the station, the Beer Engine pub which brews its own.

I got off at Newton St. Cyres for the first time ever two weeks ago; and back on again later after a visit to the rather splendid pub right next door.

I too was expecting a very low platform, but as mentioned above, there's now a Harrington Hump installed as illustrated here.

Quite. I presume that it was either inaccurately built - or horror!- inaccurately specified!

Inaccurately built isn't too much of a problem, as it would be a snagging item which the contractor would need to fix before they get their final payment.

Even inaccurately specified isn't overly bad as the contractor will do the work charge the client and the client will use the designer's insurance to recoup the costs for failing to provide an adequate design. A slightly longer way around but can still be resolved fairly quickly.

Just as well Newcourt isn't open yet - the 0923 Exmouth - Paignton just arrived at Exeter Central wedged full. Reminiscent of some of my recent trips from Bank on the Central Line! The 4-car 150/2s can't come soon enough to Devon Metro. Even if Newcourt attracts only a fraction of Digby & Sowton which serves a similar housing community (but also an industrial estate) then it's going to be more than cosy.

How "definite" is that date....have all the "problems" at Newcourt been totally resolved now to the satisfaction of those responsible for the opening to be allowed to happen?

Well anything can happen, but posters are up all over Exeter stations, under the Building a Greater West brand.

Are the signs that have been put up under GWR name or FGW name? Seems wasteful if they are just going to replace them in ~3 months.

You mean at Newcourt? The station livery is current FGW.
