Hi , looking for advice on the best value annual season ticket between slough and eastbourne .

Ideally with southern trains as I can pay in 12 monthly instalments . I was thinking eastbourne to london travel card zones 1-6 , and a ticket from slough to west drayton.

I will be sometimes starting and finishing the journey at feltham though, also I have seen you can get an annual ticket from eastbourne to reading .
What are the limitations on this ticket ?
Also is an annual season ticket an anytime ticket and is the travel card part of it also anytime ,
can i travel from eastbourne to brighton to london all zones as well on the annual ticket as sometimes this is an accepted route.

thanks in advance

A lot of questions here.

First, a Reading-Eastbourne season is very expensive - over £6,000 for an annual, and I think it would not include London Terminals, i.e. it would be valid via Gatwick, or via Clapham Junction (and Gatwick).

A Feltham-Eastbourne annual season would be £3,736 and you could combine it with Slough-Feltham day tickets (via Windsor - £6.70 anytime day single, £12.80 anytime day return) when necessary. But that presupposes you would be happy to go via Windsor when you weren't starting/ending at Feltham. And the season itself would be valid via Clapham Junction but not London Terminals

And yes, a season ticket is an "anytime" ticket, as is a weekly/monthly/annual travelcard.

So far as I can see, it is permitted to travel between London/Eastbourne via Brighton.

The difficulty with two season tickets as you suggest, is that you would be limited to using trains between Paddington and Slough that called at West Drayton. On the other hand, an Eastbourne to Zones 1 to 6 travelcard would cover Eastbourne-Feltham because Feltham is in Zone 6.

Also, see part 5.11 of the Forum's ticketing guide for customised travelcard seasons, i.e. a Slough to Eastbourne via Zones 1 to 6 travelcard.

There is no season fare in the system for Slough-Eastbourne. However, as there are Travelcard fares for both, one could be calculated.
Slough - London Zones 1-6 weekly is £81.30.
Eastbourne - London Zones 1-6 weekly is £131.80.
The total of these is £213.10.

An inboundary London Zones 1-6 weekly is £58.60.

Thus, a weekly Slough - Eastbourne season, route London Zones 1-6, would be £213.10 less £58.60, which comes to £154.50.

An annual would be 40 times this fare, so £6180.
A monthly would be 3.84 times the weekly rate, so £593.28

I don't see why this wouldn't be available on the Southern Direct Debit scheme, after all it is a Travelcard season and your origin is served by Southern. For an unusual one like this, I'd be tempted to contact them first.

For travel to Feltham, the ticket would be valid as Feltham is in Travelcard Zone 6.

Annual season ticket is not available between Slough and Eastbourne.

Annual customised Travelcard as described above is available. Did you specifically mention it? It would not be in the fares database. It needs to be manually created, and they should be able to find details of customised Travelcard season tickets in the Knowledgebase.

On the National Rail season ticket calculator, the Reading-Eastbourne season tickets are stated to be not valid via London Terminals (so not valid via Paddington and Victoria). There doesn't seem to be a quoted price for a Reading-Eastbourne season ticket via London, but that's presumably because you would be expected to buy a customised travelcard (and one that would be more expensive than one for Maidenhead-Eastbourne).

Yes, the only season ticket between Reading and Eastbourne is routed Not Via London. For travel via London, the default position is as you stated.

I believe if you get one calculated it often ends up put on the system for future use. I half remember this happened for MKC-Slough for me - it's certainly still there.

If no joy with customer services I would suggest going to a staffed station at a quiet time and they should be able to handle it.

I can't seem to find any information on the Southern website regarding paying your annual season ticket in 12 monthly instalments. Do you mean their Monthly Season Saver scheme where you pay for 11 monthly season tickets and get the 12th free?

Yeah sorry it looks like it was the monthly one I would be interested in , still not available though according to southern.

Condition 2.1 of the scheme seems to suggest to me that your ticket may not be eligible as the journey cannot be made "across the Southern network", since Southern do not operate out to Slough, although that term is sufficiently vague and is open to alternative interpretations.

Note that the tickets must start on the 15th of each month and you may not make any changes during the subsequent 11 months in order to be eligible for a free one.

How about two season tickets, as follows:
Slough - London Z5-6 £1528 route "any permitted"
Eastbourne - London Z1-6 £5272 route "any permitted"

Seems to me that this would allow any routeing including via Windsor to Feltham. Horribly expensive, though.

Perhaps the latter one could be payable in monthly instalments.

That would be a compromise assuming that the customised Travelcard is not available on instalments as the second one would definitely be available for that.
