Does anyone have any information on whether I will be able to use the S - Bahn from Munich airport to the city Centre tomorrow at about 23.30. During the last strike, I believe that line was working but I can't seem to find any information today

S8 is running to and from the airport ever 20 minutes. S1 is not going to the airport:

On the National Rail Enquiries website, there is a link to a real time train departure board for each station. The same information, and in a more detailed format too, is of course also available at realtimetrains.

Is such information available anywhere about individual stations on the German railway system? It would be very useful to get a better feeling of what is happening on the ground during the present strikes.

After arriving in Berlin, I managed to get to Alexanderplatz with no trouble, train service will resume in the evening, how comes the strike was suspended?

According to DB things should return to normal in most areas by Saturday.

More important, DB and GDL have agreed to a three week conciliation process with a possible one week extension beginning on 27th May..
Fingers crossed..

Let's hope EVG's negotiations today go well.

EVG's negotiations with DB ended without agreement today apparently and EVG have indicated their intention to strike sometime after the weekend.

Edit:
However, there are further talks between EVG and DB planned for next Wednesday and an EVG spokesperson has said that they are really close to agreeing, it just needs DB to move a little further towards what they are asking for.
As EVG appear far less militant than GDL, there's every chance. Fingers crossed.

For anyone wanting to access station departure boards, have a look at this site http://aseier.de/bahn/a.html.
It produces a web version of the same screen that you'll see on German stations which you can bookmark.
The link produced can be edited to produce different results.
For example, https://iris.noncd.db.de/wbt/js/index.html?typ=ab&style=qrab&bhf=kk&zugtyp=THA,ICE,IC,EC,RE,RB&SecLang=EN&Zeilen=50 produces the next 50 (Zeilen=50) trains departing (typ=ab) from Köln Hbf (bhf=kk) excluding SBahn (zugtyp=THA,ICE,IC,EC,RE,RB) with English subtitles (SecLang=EN).

Thanks to blackfive460 for yet more useful links.

On the subject of any strikes by EVG, what are the ramifications of their members going on strike? What grades do they represent? and would a strike by them be less, or more, disruptive of DB services than the other union?

Based on this quote in the press 'EVG represents around 100,000 Deutsche Bahn employees, of which 5,000 are train drivers' I suspect the answer is most grades which means that they can attempt to stop the job in many more ways than just not driving Deutsche Bahn's trains.
They appear far less militant than GDL though and have been quoted as saying that they feel they aren't far away from agreeing a deal with DB. Let's hope that next Wednesday's negotiations prove positive.

Yes, EVG also represents signallers, ICT staff and depot/maintenance staff, among other, whereas GDL is mostly a union for train drivers, having started organising guards in recent years only (although now also passively recruiting signallers and others). Let's hope they don't go on strike.

I'm working in Germany from 1st June - 7th June and on holiday there 2nd - 12th July....I do hope that they get this sorted out.

I've already booked lots of tickets online, if a strike is called and I'm unable to get around, how would I go about getting a refund?

Assuming you booked your tickets through DB, go to MyBahn and list your bookings. There's an edit link for each one and from there you can cancel.
There's normally an admin fee for refunds but I think that if you can't travel due to disruption that's waived.
When the last strike was on there was plenty of information about what to do if your journey was disrupted regarding alternatives and refunds.

You should be OK as far as GDL is concerned in early June as they should still be in the throes of conciliation but we need our fingers crossed that EVG's negotiations tomorrow don't go bad.
I'll have mine crossed too as I'm over there in early June too...

Certainly good news.
There are details of the deal EVG has agreed to in the German press.
That may put some pressure on GDL but having seen the way Claus reacts who knows.
At least we have a (hopefully) strike free period while the conciliation process takes place over the next three weeks.

Update 17/6

The conciliation process that GDL & DB agreed on was originally to be a 3 week process ending yesterday but the option was there for a further week if required. It appears that it is so anyone travelling would be safe until 25th June at least.

Press reports suggest that, 'The parties had agreed that major steps towards a settlement of the conflict had been agreed in recent weeks', but they won't be issuing any details until the process concludes.

So today was the day that the conciliation period was extended to but there is nothing on the GDL website to state what is happening. Let's hope no news is good news. Keeping everything crossed as hoping to sort a trip out in August.

Phew.... that hopefully protects my outward journey.

And thanks for the update. Rail Forums has been a great source of information on this dispute so far and I shall be checking here for further news; I hope they can sort this out once and for all.

According to the German press the dispute has been settled.

Here's one report (in German).

We can all start planning with a degree of confidence again at least until September 2016.

So only the usual 30+ minute delays and regular cancellations to take into account of course...
