I am planning to do an end-to-end journey across the vast Arriva Midlands operation area from Leicester to Wrexham in June, using their excellent value day ticket.

I have produced a collated timetable which is attached below. Any suggestion on the best (most scenic) route to take, place for lunch break / fag break / watering break, would be most welcome. It will take place on Friday 12th June. I must arrive by 1900 and would prefer to leave no earlier than 0700.

Text (after clicking on thumbnail) is mostly too small to read much detail in my monitor, although I did manage to read a few placenames such as Tamworth, Lichfield, Wolverhampton, Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury. Nothing spectacular, but there is some pleasant scenery near Bridgnorth. There are worse places than Bridgnorth in which to spend an hour or so for a break. Elsewhere, Lichfield has a fine cathedral, and Shrewsbury town centre has some historic old buildings plus some bridges over the River Severn.

I would suggest that you do not rely on any connections of less than about 15 to 20 minutes unless you have a later back-up connection. Traffic congestion around towns can be unpredictable, and buses can easily be delayed for several minutes, even outside peak hours. Unless specified in timetables, connections cannot be guaranteed.

Yeah that was the side effect of me trying to fit everything onto one sheet of A4. I have split the image into two separate parts although I don't think there is much improvement. Pretty much just the bigger places which act as Arriva hubs, the ones you mentioned plus the likes of Walsall, Willenhall, Cannock and Stafford.

What is Bridgnorth like in town? I have never been there before so would be quite interested, but like you say, I would only do it if I manage to get myself onto the 1245 bus from Wolves, as otherwise subsequent connections become a bit dodgy. Is there anywhere nice for a drink? Seeing that I would end up being stuck for 55 minutes, a quick pint should be in order in those situations for me.

Also where exactly is High Town No.82? That is what the Arriva website says, but trying to find out definitive information on that is tricky.

If you go to Bridgenorth try out the cliff tram.

Sounds interesting. Will definitely have a look.

It has been many years since I last went to Bridgnorth, which was on a day trip from school.

What I remember of it, Bridgnorth is split into two sections - High Town and Low Town. Both of these are connected by the cliff tramway. Also, it is the northern terminus of the Severn Valley Railway.

Regarding High Town No. 82, through using semantics and logical thinking, I would hazard a guess and say it is from a bus stop in the High Town part of Bridgnorth.

In peace

If you go to Travel Shropshire site and search for timetables to/from Bridgnorth, you should get taken to an option which offers a local map for Bridgnorth, showing the location of bus stops:

http://www.travelshropshire.co.uk/bus/bus-routes-and-times.aspx

Some shops & refreshment places in both High and Low Town areas, but High Town probably has a better selection. It also shows location of Severn Valley Railway station. Note that High Town streets can be busy if you go on a market day - definitely saturdays, but possibly also on some other days.
