When I did my lift training I got the 'pleasure' of riding on top of one of the new lift cars at Hampstead, shortly before commissioning for public use. Luckily it was at a slower speed; although even so it did feel a bit like an action movie!

Logic dictates that the fastest lift rides will be on the deepest lifts because of closing speeds/friction etc, but as we don't live in a logical world.... Hampstead was certainly the answer 30 years ago, but I couldn't answer now.

It certainly is Hampstead, which is the only station on LU to have high-speed lifts, hence they're smaller. I am aware that they have been refurbished within the last couple of years, I am unsure as to how this has impacted on their reliability, as going back a few years ago when I used to work there, we did have quite a few failures.

The lifts at Hampstead may be the fastest but the stairs are the slowest as it takes me longer to use them than at any other station.

I find the stairs at many stations frequented by tourists (such as Covent Garden, Camden Tw, Mornington Crescent) to be very slow as people dawdle and keep stopping to make boring comments to strangers such as "this is a long way," "keep going, you've nearly made it," and "like a mountain."

You need to sing the theme tune to Rawhide at them with a few 'mushes' and 'yee-ha's' thrown in to "get them dawgies movin'". Must admit with Hampstead it is the journey from the platform that is a tad slower - not so bad heading down.
