I've been trying to look for tickets from Cambridge to Heathrow using the NRE website but whatever dates I put in I just get an error message:

"We are sorry, we are not able to find any trains that match your journey details. There are some possible reasons below. Please try again."

Cambridge to Paddington works fine, as does Kings Cross to Heathrow. It has been like this for a while. Any ideas?

NRE does seem to have a lot of bugs.

But, given that NRE will simply re-direct you to the booking site of one of the Train Companies, perhaps it's best to go directly to such a website?

Edit: Trying the VTEC website also gets "no results". You may have to go to a station or use telesales to buy the tickets, if the error is on all websites (I've not checked any others) and if it persists.

If going by tube it would be cheaper not to buy a through fare, in most cases. But if we are to be providing advice on alternative fares we'd need much more information, such as the day of the week and approximate times of travel, for both directions if it's a return journey.

I think this is a fares data error created by FCC, they changed the relationship with HEX fares
Yes I would agree with that (apart from the fact that FCC no longer exists as a TOC): previously there were only ✠ANY PERMITTED fares between Cambridge and Heathrow Rail. Since NFM21 came into force 8 days ago now there are separate ✠NOT HEATHROW EXP and ANY PERMITTED fares, all at the same prices.

The ANY PERMITTED fares no longer have a Maltese Cross so are a bit useless, as you can't cross London from King's Cross to Paddington with them. The net result is you can't use Heathrow Express if travelling from Cambridge on a through fare; you need to use Heathrow Connect.

Thanks for the info everyone. I have tweeted Great Northern about it and they said they will look into it.

That appears ridiculous, I wonder if there is some rationale behind it?

Probably a mistake.

You'd be surprised how many mistakes are made! Usually they seem to dis-benefit passengers (as in this case), but not always...
