16-25 railcard, Virgin West Coast

Hi

Want to go from London to Edinburgh later this week with a super off peak return (need flexibility).

I'd like to get the 4.30pm from Euston to Preston then change onto a TPE or VT service from there (friend is going to Glasgow on the same train).

I know I can't get trains after 2.30pm w/ east coast, but does this apply to West Coast? I have a railcard so I do believe there are further advantages?

If anyone has any better ideas then also feel free to shout.

You might consider buying two tickets to take advantage of the VTWC railcard time concession (as the Edinburgh route on one ticket is priced by VTEC and does not offer the concession).
Book an Off Peak Return (SVR) from Euston to Preston (£57.35), and another from Preston to Edinburgh (£45.50).
The latter is Via Carlisle so you can use TPE from Preston if you want.
Another way is to go via Glasgow. The Off Peak Return (SVR) is a VTWC fare at £88.30, so has the railcard concession.
You then pay whatever for the local fare Glasgow-Edinburgh.
Both of these tickets are valid on any train via Preston/Carlisle.
You are committed to this route both ways - not usable on VTEC.
The trains must call at Preston, but then all do so no problem.
Coming back you can get a VTWC through service via Birmingham, or change at Carlisle or Preston into a Glasgow-Euston direct.
If I've got it wrong I'm sure someone will pipe up.

No afternoon restriction from Euston on the Super Saver Return to Edinburgh.

Why not stay on the VWC train all the way to Glasgow Central, you can maximise the time with your friend, then just transfer over to Glasgow Queen Street for the frequent shuttle to Edinburgh. I don't think there is that much of a time penalty.

You could do that but you might get a somewhat frosty welcome. I once held a London Terminals - Edinbrugh ticket and tried to enter at Glasgow QS HL, it didn't work the gate and the staff didn't seem to want to let me through. Fortunately they did but the conductor on the train was not very willing to believe that a London to Edinburgh ticket was valid via Falkirk.
