Hi everyone, my first post on this Forum.

I passed the Driver assessment tests with Crossrail 2 weeks back, but was informed this week that I hadn't got through the Driver manager interview :cry

What I want to know is what do I do now? When applying for upcoming vacancies with TOC/FOC's do I need to go through the whole application process or just call or email them as and when a Trainee driver jobs comes up?

Any advise from people who have also been in this situation would be greatfully appreciated!

You'll still have to complete an application form but if you get through the sift you'll just inform them of your crossrail passes and you will go through to dmi interview unless they have additional toc specific tests.

In the same boat as the OP but with a different TOC, I'd definitely see if you can get feedback from them as to what went well and what didn't go well.

I doubt all DMIs are the same (I've only attended one) but it should hopefully put you in a stronger position for next time.

Hi again, still looking for a little hope and encouragement!
Has anyone else on here passed all assessments but failed at Dmi, but then gone on to get a job with another TOC/FOC?

Also anyone in the same position as me from MTR Crossrsil process?

Loads of people have

I have.. Kind of

Failed my final freightliner interview in august passed a fgw one in december but now on hold for vacancies though people seem to think they will happen

The freightliner interview was deceivingly easy especially compared to the MMI but nerves got the better of me it was all about why you want to be a driver and how you stand out from others and of course company information with a few questions on the phonetic alphabet and checking. I know my stuff on rules as. I work in the industry already... Oh and how freight is different to passenger driving... I do not remember any competency questions

They were completely different interviews the freightliner was around ten minutes the fgw interview though internal was a grilling and more how. I expected an interview to be... Lots on the company and competency questions seemed a never ending list! However though many pass some are scored higher so it is not as simple as it seems!

I then failed a greater anglia interview a few months later which was completely different again nothing on the company straight into competency questions which were quite long winded in terms of wording though less of them than the previous two. I applied for this before I discovered I was successful with FgW and went more for the experience so my heart wasn't really in it as FGW would be better for me on so many levels but will see if it materialises...

I got to the DMI with Crossrail about a month ago and didn't get it.

I had a DMI with GTR a week ater and got offered the job. Don't worry about the Crossrail thing, it's just practice for next time.

The benefit you probably have is you have higher scores and have passed ALL the tests for greater anglia I sat and passed the DFFT as an extra and was checked my scores were high enough but crossrail run all tests including an additional SJE and. VSE(?) all at enhanced scoring I believe

Interestingly C2C refused to allow me an interview for depot driving back in november as they said my score on the wafv test did not meet their standards (as in their view. I failed it I could not retake then as would be too soon) but greater anglia obviously thought it was fine... Perhaps some companies either have higher requirements or only have enhanced on stage one rather than stage two.. Unclear if the MMI can be enhanced or not

However I have decided depot driving is not for me now

It would be good if unsuccessful at DM interview if you could be fast tracked next time they recruit for a second chance as they paid for you to take the assessment

I know someone on here did that with a FOC (sent an email) and got another interview a year later without applying

Thanks for the positive comments folks, I guess it's just another waiting game for me now then, I'm just going to apply for everything as and when it comes up. I just hope it's not my previous railway experience that's put them off!( I was a guard for 7 years back in the 90's)

You did better than me and at least two of my colleagues. One didn't get through the paper tests and crashed out at Group Bourdon (pretty poor for a qualified Guard), one didn't pass the first computer test, then I didn't past the twohanded co-ordination - we're all qualified Guards. Don't beat yourself up, thousands of people were overlooked before you got the opportunity to do what you did.

Good luck 'tweds74' if you go again, I believe the information posted by ML reflects how persevering and having a determined mind can get you to the end goal. I am only at the early stages with my application but will take on board ML's advice should I been unsuccessful at any stage.

Incidentally, ML, you mention the Freightliner final interview and also the MMI, am I correct in thinking the MMI is at the end of stage two of the assessment day and if successful you sit another interview in isolation? I'd be grateful for confirmation as I research to better understand what the actual process is.

Many thanks.
