Just had a bit of a panic as I was booking two Advance 1st TPE ticket Manchester Picc to Middlesbrough, and noticed that other trains that day had cheaper prices, so I amended my request to 1 person, and sure enough there was one ticket left at a lower tier. I bought this, along with some other tickets to make up a 3-part journey, thinking I would then buy a second ticket for the MAN-MBR leg, albeit at a higher price than my first one.
However, the VTEC ( force of habit) site would not allow me to do this, and kept telling me to chose a different service as the train I wanted was full. I knew it wasn't, as originally I'd been allocated a different seat because I'd forgotten to select my preferences. Even after completing the first booking and re-entering my request on VTEC as a new order, it still wouldn't let me buy a second ticket.
Panicking a bit now, I went on the ATW site, and managed to get my required ticket with no problem whatsoever - it even allocated me a seat facing my first one! Doing it this way saved me about £5 compared with buying the two in one hit.
Is this a bug in the WebTis (is that right?) system that prevents two tickets being sold on the same website at different prices for the same service, even as completely separate orders?
