The 0739 is shown on the screen as arriving on plat 2 but the train always arrives on plat 1. It has been happeneing since the timetable update. Does anyone know why this is the case?

Most trains to Victoria at East Croydon tend to use Platform 1 and trains going north on Platform 2 tend to go to London Bridge. However this train is booked to use Platform 2 as there is another train to London Victoria booked a few minute behind it. Perhaps a force of habit with Victoria trains mostly using Platform 1. Although it might be in response to any delays.

I won't pretend I know the answer to your question but we used to have a similar situation at Watford Junction with the 07:55 to London Euston which arrives empty stock from Euston and goes back in service.

It is booked for platform 10 which used to be a 15 mph crossing from the down slow into the bay platform, so the signallers always used to run it into platform 9 because it prevented it from coming to a crawl when it only had 7 minute turnaround and was frequently 2-3 minutes late. It was a total lottery whether it would be platform 9 or 10 but since the resignalling there's no issue now with the speed.

It could be a similar issue with the 07:39 at East Croydon, perhaps it's quicker to get both trains in and out of the station if they used adjacent platforms rather than one behind the other. The 07:42 could be arriving into platform 1 as the 07:39 is leaving 2 rather than sat outside on a red signal.

At the terminus I control, on TRUST nearly all the trains are booked to use the same platform, which physically is impossible!

So it could be that TRUST and the signallers simplifies simply for correlate?

Surely if this was the case RTT would show the train as using platform 1? Generally the information on Trust is always different to the platform books used by the signallers - Southern at Victoria is a great example of that (it used to be anyway). I've seen it at other locations to, particularly when there is an amended service operating.

The platforms book generally match the CIS too, back at home in Plymouth services are booked a mixed bag of platforms on Trust, however the station working book that the staff and signalmen work off are totally different - plenty of inconsistencies in the railway though unfortunately.

The 07:39 dep at East Croydon which is 1C55 is booked to use platform 1 on the signallers sheets for panel 1B at TBASC.

Sure enough the CIS has 1C55 using platform 2.

I've changed it to platform 1, so it should hopefully be correct on Monday morning.

Proper Customer Service - that's what I like. Put it on a rail forum it gets fixed - write to Thameslink/Southern Management and nothing happens :D

sounds like the software driving the information screens hasn't been updated.

Happened last year at Bletchley when the 07:15 (ish) to Euston was always announced as a platform change form platform 4 to platform 5 even though it started from 5 every day as you cant get form the sidings to p 4 directly anymore anyway!

Great the train turned up on plat 1 today! Another question, is the 0731 now made up of 12 instead of 8 carriages?

Booked to be 8/387.

It's from Bognor (7:31 to Victoria) or do you mean the Uckfield train in Platform 4.

I've only ever caught it as an 8 car (alternative morning train changing at ECR for me) but will be happy if now 12 car

Whoops, looking at the wrong train. If it's the 1C99 07.32 to Victoria you mean, yes, it's booked 12/377.

Yes I meant the 0731 to Victoria :) It looks like Southern listened to people who got on that train which was always extremely crowded.

So if the simplifier has been changed from the booked platform, where is the feedback loop to the CIS controlles / planners? Out platform staff would be screaming about such a thing within days.

I can only assume that as this train was either going to depart from one side of an island platform or the other, it wasn't troubling the platform staff / passengers too much for them to bother reporting / complaining about.
If, on the other hand, it resulted in a daily last minute stampede across the footbridge with resultant extended dwell time, then no doubt it would've been flagged up before now.

As for the panel simplifiers, I'm not entirely sure what source these are extracted from (although sight of them would sure come in handy for a simulation project I'm working on at the moment ;)), but as it does appear logical for 1C55 to depart from platform 1, I can only assume that whoever input the train into ITPS has fat fingers.

If the swift, resolute action I have taken has improved just one persons day, then I can crack open a well deserved cold one (when I get home ) knowing that I've done a good job.

I believe the simplifiers are created by a excel macro, and a program that downloads a ton of information from TRUST. Of course, they end up being edited and juggled around to suit the signallers and the service.

John, PM me your work email and I will fire over the excel version of the simplifiers for my workstation.
