Hi guys,
i recently got through and passed all the assessments for the gtr trainee train driver position and was wondering if anyone had any tips or anything about what the line manager interview will be like and if its as horrible as the multi modal interview?

Well done on passing all the assessments!

The line manager interview is much more relaxed than the MMI. The people that interviewed me were really nice and I felt relaxed, we even had a few laughs.

I did a lot of research on the company and what they have going on at the moment i.e the Thameslink programme, new rolling stock on the way etc.

Information is not hard to find. Between their website, google and especially this forum you can get a lot.

It also helps to know a bit about the routes and which stations they call at.

Think about what kinds of announcements drivers have to make both when things are running smoothly and when they aren't.

The most important question, as everyone knows is 'why do you want to become a train driver?' Think about that one very carefully so you can give them a well thought out answer.

I got there about 30 minutes early - not saying you should but you get to relax a bit and go over things in your head etc. Besides, much better than being late or rushing to be on time.

Finally, all the best!! :D:D

Congratulations on getting through :)

With GTR for me, I was informed just as my rear touched the seat that this interview was not a formal on, they wanted from the start to ensure I was relaxed and comfortable.

The emphasis on these interviews is not to go over what you've done in the assessments, you've passed those, this is much more on whether you are what GTR are looking for and have you got what it takes, in their eyes, to become a train driver

You will of course be asked about previous employment, what skills you think you have that could be applied to the position of a train driver, and like l0c0m0t1ve above, we even had a couple of laughs, it felt more like a few friends having a drink than an interview, but believe me, they are listening :)

good luck mate I am sure you will be fine ;)

That's a good point, even though it is a relaxed one, you still have to remain professional. Just have to find the right balance.

Also, appearance is of paramount importance, some I know disagree, but at the end of the day, your representing you TOC, I wore a nice suit type pair of trousers, Shirt and Tie, and polished shoes

I am not a "Suit" person to be honest, but I wore these as I wanted to make a good impression and I obviously did ok, I have been with GTR for just over three months now, and am loving every minute of it!

Another good point. I went all out with the full suit.

I'm sure I remember them having a sheet which had a section on how you are dressed - maybe I was seeing things lol:)

Quick question, I know they have said it's Mon-Fri 9-5, but is that every single week?

I had the email to say that I had passed stage 2 with GTR almost 3 weeks ago. I have applied for Bedford.
How long has it taken for DM interview letters to come through to people?
I also read on here that GTR was doing GN DM interviews before TL, can anyone shed any more light on that?
I'm very grateful for the advice given on this site that has got me this far through the recruitment process. What a great resource!

Hi Ollie.
It could be on the days, within a couple hours after your interview. However, max is a week. That's what I was told buddy. Good luck :)

Based on my experience, they will interview people between Mon - Friday and then inform people of the outcome on Friday. I did mine first thing on Monday morning and got told on Friday afternoon. Others did theirs on the following Friday and got told the same day.

Cheers guys! Once if successful, is it pretty much guaranteed you've got the post? I mean as long as you haven't got anything wrong with yourself to fail the medical.

Thank you

Well I assume so. People have waited a while and got the call and contract. Its just a waiting game. However they have stated they WILL progress us once they had the dates :)

Well done, I've got assessments with GTR on Monday. Fingers crossed I'll get through his to the interview stage. Have put a fair bit of work into suspected questions in anticipation of getting that far!

Had my medical recently, various tests, nothing odd. Took just over 2 hours in total.
