Hi all,

Can anyone advise the likelyhood of HST's on the Burton on Trent - Falmouth route - I am getting the 1038 CrossCountry from Burton to Plymouth (then change onto FGW) in a couple of weeks time. I know the 0838 service is usually a HST, but what about services later that morning?

I know its a long shot but any ideas?

Cheers

If you go to the "Frequently Requested Diagrams Thread" all the XC trains booked to be worked by HSTs are listed there.

Thanks for your useful replies

I'll be travelling prob on Wednesday, returning Saturday. The journey involves 2 changes onto FGW - any idea what rolling stock it might be? Plymouth to Truro, then Truro to Falmouth.

I've had a look at the HST diagrams too - thanks for that! I'm now trying to get the tickets as cheaply as poss - its £161 return so far, working on the split at the mo!!

You may find a Freedom of the South West could come in handy south of cheltenham: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/pr0f61f9c35ce741009c0e3842403e09.aspx

Plymouth - Truro - either a HST if it is a London train, 150 or 153 if a local.

Truro - Falmouth - 2x 153 or 150 in my experience.

Summer Saturdays some of the Plymouth to Penzance locals get Hsts. It typically runs 20-30 behind one from London. I always find the London train full and standing and wait for the Hst I know is shortly behind on the stopper. I've had a table seat every time without fail.

Truro to Falmouth will be 2 x 153 on 1 diagram and a 150 on the other.

Thanks again to the forum members, particularly re the Freedom of the South West Rover ticket idea!!

That'll bring around £50 off what i've been quoted so far, plus I can also get to visit family in Cardiff on the same ticket - Brilliant!!!

Ah apologies, yes I was only thinking of the week. 16:55 Penanzce - Newton abbot is an example that springs to mind, and the 8:18 Plymouth - Penzance is another example.

Good to hear that we've been able to be of help l! :)

Me again,

I'm finding it difficult to buy this Freedom of the South West ticket online - any pointers? Can't find anything on FGW or RedSpotted Hanky!
