Hello everyone!
This is my first post here. My name is Mikko Lindskog. I am from Sweden and together with my girlfriend I have bought an old railway station from 1877. It is situated in the village Grythyttan.
During the last years the swedish rail authorities have been keen on selling old stations, simply because they don´t need them anymore. That is also how we came to buy our station.
The first train departed from Grythyttan on the 3rd of January 1877. At that time Bergslagernas Järnvägar (BJ), a privat railroad company, was finished building the line from Gothenburg to Falun. The line was important for the mines which needed transportation to a big harbour.
BJ built stations in three classes. Our building is "first class station in wood". There were also brick stations in three classes.
Right now we are in the process of renovating the house (can be followed on http://grythyttanstation.com translation button in the upper right corner). Unfortunately the rail authorities wanted to save money, for instance on the heating costs. They let the house stand cold without emptying the system of water. So repairing the heating and water system is high on our long to-do-list.
The picture shows a vintage train passing our station. It is a Da-locomotive pulling an O-locomotive and then all the different coaches. They idea for this trip was to have the O-locomotive in front, but unfortunately the locomotive decided to go on strike after just a bit of the trip. The journey itself was organised by the Swedish Railway Club as a trip to their year meeting in May 2014.
