Hi All. I'm just wondering if the following is A, allowed at all and B if Serco Sleeper will pick holes even if it is valid?

Glasgow Central 23:40 sleeper to Euston, with first part of journey being on a Single Glasgow>Motherwell with DSB Railcard, splitting there at 00:01 onto Day 1 of an ALR again with Railcard?

Just checking as Serco's ticketing from what I've heard has been, odd to say the least.

Hmm. This depends on whether you think "u" and "s" are relevant to splitting or not. I have a feeling you may have problems unless you can get it in writing from Caledonian Sleeper that you can do this, and take it with you.

Would it be an option to travel to Motherwell on an earlier train and join there?

In this case, the All Line Rover counts as a "leisure travel pass" for the purposes of condition 19c and therefore there is no requirement to stop at Motherwell at all.

I can't answer the question about hassle, but, presuming the train indeed departs from Motherwell after midnight, it's definitely a valid 19(c) split. It is irrelevant whether the train stops at all, let alone whether it stops to both set down and pick up.

Ah yes, I stand corrected; while it is debatable as to whether it is a season ticket or not, it is certainly a "leisure travel pass". I therefore can't see any reason for it not to be valid. However it may still, if there's time, be worth getting it in writing from CS to ensure no problems on the day.

That all depends on how good CS are on the email front. If there quick then yes I could try get this as the service is indeed pickup only at Motherwell but does depart at 1 minute past midnight. I could go there and fester but dont really want too as Id rather like to be a sleep before then!

This is fine. Do not worry. Your tickets are valid. If anyone on the train has a problem with it, it is just that, their problem. Although I highly doubt it given the NRCoC makes provisions as given above.

I've been having email dialogue with Serco Caledonian Sleeper today about the sleeper and the Local Scottish Easements (see separate thread).

Firstly, they responded within minutes to my email query. I had quite a ping pong of emails back and forward between me and Serco Customer Services. Excellent service.

Secondly, unfortunately they said they don't recognise the Scottish Local Easements as they can't find any current official industry documentation about them. They did however state that a Freedom of Scotland Travelpass would be valid with a Carlisle -London Anytime ticket [I'd have thought an off-peak ticket would suffice - I'll have to check]. I didn't ask them this question but it does confirm they are aware of 19c.

Caledonian Sleeper

For future reference, there is a Freedom Of Scotland ticket available from National Rail and would allow you to alight one service at Kyle Of Lochalsh and board a different service at Mallaig. If you were to also have an Anytime ticket between London and Carlisle, you would then be permitted on board our service from Fort William.

In one of my emails I did comment that it my query must be different to the normal ones they get. The response was:

Caledonian Sleeper

It is indeed one of my more unusual queries to deal with and I too have learnt a thing or two about easements, so thank you. I have previously been aware of certain route allowances due to having had British Rail Family Travel in the past, but was unaware as to what or how easements are or work.
